"Jon did you have to use the front part of your Beta I trans case?"

I doubt he did.

I am using a Beta2 Elantra Tranny in my car with no issues besides grinding down the piece on the back which was about 2 mins work.

Thats great news! Now I just need to find a Beta II 5-speed transmission...

I wonder why Mad_Jon says you need to change the case...

I wish I could have known this about a month ago when I found a beta II off of a 05 elantra w/very low mileage for cheap.
I just put in a beta I tranny about two weeks ago and the tranny wasnt cheap either.
Wish someone would have answered my post a month ago, now I'm stuck with the Beta I...LOL

ive allways been told that 5th gear is just a overdrive. so its much weaker then the other gears. and that your not supposed to really beat on it for that reason alone.

yep... that's all it is!

andhow about the beta 2 tranny? cause the v6 has a 6 speed and it would be cool if that would fit.
i dont have a tranny yet, so that why i ask wink1.gif

There IS a 6 speed transmission option for the beta I from Korea out of another car over there thats fits up perfectly. It was discussed several months ago in a clutch thread. It would be costly to do though. Like $5000 or so for shipping and install. Too expensive to really be worth it. I considered it, but the cost compared to the benefit is too great.
.... I found a six speed beta transaxle online, and called Korea about 16 months ago. The guy could speak English and said he was standing over a 6 speed right then. $975 he quoted me. And I have no idea what it would of cost to get here to USA. They are supposed to be really tough though. I just did this to me Tiburon (lower geared 'wide ratio) transaxle (see pics)

That is the input shaft in the pic. This crack is under the bell housing with the clutch

Stripped teeth off the ring gear visible through the hole blown out of the case.

At the race track with drag tires.

I have swapped Beta 1 and Beta 2 manual 5 speeds repeatedly, with NO Issue, no grinding, no anything. They are completely interchangeable. What are you guys talking about???

and Elantra's have the higher gears, Tiburon's have lower gears. It is not a Beta 1 vs Beta 2 thing.

LOL! I love seeing these decade old threads get revived! Haha!

Sounds like a good price. Shipping will be the tell all if it's worth it. Itd be unique, that's for sure!

The beta tranny can be built though to stand up to some serious abuse. I just had my tranny rebuilt, cryotreated and shot peened the gears. Also micro polished to remove micro surface cracks. With a Kaaz LSD and a donor used elantra tranny( I wanted the longer gears) set me back about 2500.

Depending on your power, honestly you wouldn't need the 6th gear. Those are usually shorter to give cars with less power more getup. I still spin 1st and 2nd occasionally and I'm around 350 ft of torque.

You would def have bragging rights to an imported 6 speed that bolts up to the beta platform! Good luck with your decision and update this old ass thread when you make a decision!
