It still bothers me that LARRS thinks this thread started because of him, so I looked at the last few months of COTM...

August had 2 entries, September only 1 so ~Tibchic~ won by default. 3 in November and 2 in December. The last two months have barely had 50 votes.

We used to have over 100 votes for COTM and 5+ entries. If anything, it would be the September winner by default, not the December COTM, that would have prompted this thread. But, as I said, no single COTM contest in the past started this thread, but rather our ideas for the year to come.

I think it should be discontinued due to lack of participation. I think it should be changed more to a featured tib and not a contest. Contests always draw upon popularity of the person and not always the car(same as a damn carshow). Therefore if it is featured the moderator chooses from a group of cars and features each one per month and everyone interested gets a chance to be featured. Just my .02 since i hate the whole politics involved in voting.</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (majikTib @ Dec 12 2009, 11:12 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>We've always had our contest open to all Hyundais. Last year, we made specific month categories to help include non-show cars, because they have a different set of criteria that shouldn't be overlooked when competing against flashy body kits.

We're open to all suggestions - but a 'featured car' will be just as much of a 'popularity contest' as COTM would. If the staff were to EVER select RED ZMAN's car as a "featured ride" (even a year from now) then we'd immediately be called biased.</div>

Yeah it's getting kind of shabby every month as of late, but I look forward to it.</div>

These are some of the quotes I read that inspired me to post my feelings! But I still think that there is a lot of people here that would of said "if so and so entered I would of voted for them". I'm not saying that's wrong if the car deserves it, I joined up in early 06 and voted almost every month since, In the beginning I voted for cars that I thought should of won and most times they did not. Then as I got to know some of the people I have to admit if it came down to a toss up between 2 cars then I voted on the person I knew. There's even times I voted on cars that were blue just because mine was. I only entered Dec COTM as I really would like to see my car in a calendar amongst 11 other amazing cars. If that happens then I probably wouldn't enter again as I have got what I wanted which would be my hard work recognized in a RD calendar. As for COTM, I voted to keep it, as it is a thrill to win if you're not used to winning. I hate to say it but I hear it so often "it's just a Hyundai" .So remember being recognized is a big deal for most of us who normally are not recognized!

Completely understandable. I think there's enough interest in this thread to keep COTM. Other ideas for change are welcome

When i posted what i did...it was not to take anything away from your win. I actually thought you deserved it and i personally voted for you. When i say choices competition between 2 cars is boring to me personally. It doesn't feel like a win....Now competition like it used to be with multiple cars was fun and exciting. So don't feel bad and i apologize if i came across as rude as that was not my intention. I like your car and thought it was well deserved to be a winner and in the calender.

Larrs [ 32 ] ** [74.42%]
SilkySmooth [ 11 ] ** [25.58%]

Larrs, you got around 3:1 vote for you for COTM. You should be proud that your won COTM man. This goes for anyone, there seems to be more people that would like to enter COTM but think they cant compete. I talked to a few people who though that the other entrant had a bit to much flash and picked the wrong color. The voting was for the cleaner car that as by the votes more people liked. I dont think many people got the direction silky was going with his car.

Cobra, 75% of the people that posted in this thread still have a tib.

Regardless of the number of entries, I feel that all winners deserve their place in the calendar. All winners have very nice cars. Just because there wasn't much competition doesn't mean they aren't high quality rides. For the members to have as much dedication to their cars to WANT to enter it into the COTM shows their passion.

Hopefully we can get all high resolution pictures and get the calendars printed. It'd be nice if people would step up and help.

That still leaves 25% that don't. Also, many of the original members (been here longer than 5 years) no longer have their cars. Even though my car has never won or even been entered into COTM, it's not eligible because I sold it. If older members are shut out of activities, what's to keep us around? My posts here have already dropped off dramatically. Just look at my post count.

Good Points all around.

So what activities would you suggest, in addition to COTM, that may help the older members be more active? This is something else we've been discussing, such as seasonal threads (i.e., winter pictures, man recipes, similar wh0re threads, contests - such as pics of "RDT" in xmas lights).

Since we're a tight-knit community that seems to be dwindling off, I guess I'm considering taking the site in a new direction. I feel our goal has been to be a Car Forum first, with off-topic threads to the side. Maybe we can become more focused on the overall community involvement, and have the car stuff on the side? Helping members and addressing problems as they arise, but giving other reasons for members to come to the forums.

I'm not sure if this is a good direction to take, or if it'd even be popular with the members... I'm just thinking through my fingers and looking for feedback.
