Well that's good, it's what I'm hoping for.

I just realized that I've got more than 100 photos up in my photobucket, so I might as well share the link with you guys.

Alright, I'm back at war with the wiring, fighting to keep my cruise control operational.

I've got a few things modified now. Instead of connecting wires 7 and 8 of the transaxle range control unit to each other, I instead wired them to the clutch neutral safety sensor switch.

This way, the clutch safety switch does it's job, keeps you from starting it with the clutch engaged.

Secondly, this is very important, I did what nobody else has done. Following this here diagram, I found that the clutch switch that disengages the clutch is one of several "cancel switches". The other is on the brake pedal's lamp switch, and there's a third one for automatics that kicks when you shift it into neutral. From what I read the "P/N" position switch, pins ten and eleven, are what control this. I went ahead and grabbed a second brake lamp switch and installed it in my clutch pedal, spliced the connector, and wired it to the parking position switch, wires 10 and 11. Hopefully, this will do exactly what I need it to. If not, I'll splice them onto the brake pedal, wires C and D, where they'll trigger the exact same "cancel" effect.

<span style="font-size:24pt;line-height:100%">IT RUNS</span>

I'll give you guys a rundown of the last couple days here:

<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%"><u>Friday</u></span>
No brackets, went to the junkyard and found two rd1s, one of which was on top of two other crushed vehicles. Found my correct speed sensor among a few other things, the guy working the desk let me have it all for free, since he apparently saw my acrobatics to get up and around there.
Put in some work on the car, painted a few things here and there, finished cleaning the engine bay.

My new sensor:

<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%"><u>Saturday</u></span>
Got my brackets from stocker and went to work on the car. I put in 15 hours of labor on this day.

Ground down the corner of the beta 2 tranny:

Got everything bolted on and ready to drop in, can you guess which pieces I painted? Yeah.

And bam, it was bolted in!

I went really slow on the install, making sure I had everything hooked up right, making sure the wires were secure and out of sight, here's where we stood at about 5:30 saturday night/sunday morning:

I found out that I needed new nuts and washers to go with the exhaust manifold, so I put that off till I could go buy some.

<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%"><u>Sunday</u></span>
Worked 12 hours at work, didn't touch the car.

<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%"><u>Monday</u></span>
Worked 10 to 5, my last day on the job. Went and got the misc. hardware I needed afterwards. Didn't get started on the car till almost eight, worked till about 2AM, but I got it started for the first time! Here's how it looked monday night:

A great shot of my nicely painted heatshield:

<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%"><u>Tuesday, aka today</u></span>
Worked out a few kinks (I had reassembled the AC tensioner pulley incorrectly), topped off the fluids, got it on the ground and went for a drive.
That was the most satisfying drive ever. That car is amazing. Hauls ass, handles super well, it's a ton of fun, and it looked damn sexy once I got it through the carwash.

So, there's a few things I'm still working on. The PCV (Purge Canister Valve) is freakin out on me and it's making filling up nearly impossible, fortunately a DIY was just posted on this very subject, so I'll be doing that soon. I'm getting a shitload of belt whine too, but I've checked all the tension and they seem fine, I don't know if I'm just paranoid or something. It's fine at idle, it starts to complain once you rev it. Once I put the hood back on and everything, it's not that bad. The manifold I got from bommello does leak, unfortunately, but I'll live. I do have a CEL now, I'm guessing it has to do with the swap or with the break-in of all the new stuff. I'm hoping the bit of white smoke comin' from the tailpipe will wear off soon too. It's not coolant, so I don't really know what it is.

I'm taking it in tomorrow to pull the CEL and get a new windshield, then I'll see about fixing the evap canister/purge valve issues.

Wow, good to see you are happy. Imagine how awesome it is when it's decently modified!

I've got a spare set of seat skins, the same you have but in MUCH better condition. You want them?

Hey man glad to see you got it running and you are enjoying her. About the manifold, like I said before it was fine when it came off my car and once again sorry it go to you with that crack. I hope the CEL isn't because of the swap.... was hoping to see a CEL free swap, since they are rare lol.

Mine was CEL free.

I told you you'd still be working on Sunday AM! Good job on the brackets and I'm glad you got it driving finally.

Compared to an autotragic, having a standard in the same car is flippin' SWEET ain't it?

great job man. That was a lot of well done work

hey btw meanwhile if you remove one of the hoses from the evap canister. Cant recall if is the small one or larger one. It will allow you to fill up a full tank so that you can work on your engine

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (RED ZMAN @ May 27 2009, 10:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Wow, good to see you are happy. Imagine how awesome it is when it's decently modified!

It's either new skins or new seats altogether for me, go ahead and pm me a price after shipping to 72712. I'm loving it as-is, but I'm already laying out plans for some upgrades.

Stocker, how'd you get yours CEL free? I'm getting a CEL for P1586 AT Encoding Error: communication error between ECU and TCM. Did I miss some wiring in there somewhere? It's apparently still looking for the TCM. And yes, it's freakin awesome! I'm loving the gobs and gobs of low and mid-range power. I've never really driven a FWD manual before, so it's a little bit of getting used to, but all in all not bad.

Bommello, don't worry about it, once I got the heatshield on it's barely noticeable and it's not throwing a CEL, it'll do perfectly till I get a header fing02.gif

Tibbychick, I couldn't have done it without you, thanks again! I'll be putting up a "props" post soon to recognize everyone who's helped me out.

Thus far I've replaced pretty much every single bulb in this car. One of my back-up lamps was completely missing it's bulb, the orange was almost completely flaked off of my turn indicators in both the front and rear, and my brake lights were just FUBAR, one was the wrong bulb altogether (single filament instead of dual) and the other had it's high filament busted, my fogs were unplugged... I've been working through all sorts of stupid stuff like that today. I got some new wiper blades just in time for the rain though smile.gif

The bit of white smoke coming from the exhaust is gone, I'm assuming it was just break-in of all the parts. Brakes are feeling pretty nice, I'll re-bleed them soon. Everything else seems to be good thus far, I'll keep everyone posted.
