<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mwood @ Mar 18 2009, 08:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>so question....177K on the motor, why not just get a low mileage engine with it already being manual</div>
Haha, let me amend that real quick. The odometer miles aren't the actual miles on the engine. I was told that the engine was replaced and is now sitting at about 60k miles. This looks about right since most of the components I've pulled, such as the timing belt and oil pan sealant, looked to be pretty damn new. I've seen 100k+ mile motors before and this really doesn't look like one to me. I'm thinking that most of the other components *coughcough*autotragic*cough* were original.
I'll see what I can do about getting a hold of redshark, maybe he can come lend a hand on reinstallation. I've got a good friend with an 01 auto that's bone stock that I'll be using for reference if I can't figure out how to put something back in (unlikely).
Thanks for the reminder on the rear main seal, I would have totally forgotten!
And also, TC, you just keep saving my ass, I'll be sure to pick up some MT-90 when I get to fluids.

Alright, time for another update!
Got most of my shiny fun parts in over spring break, all of my swap parts came in from tibbychick and my clutch came in from yellowlightning. I'm still waiting on some parts from ericy321 and an alternator from enigo before I can really say I've got it, but it's coming along nicely.
First off, got that damn fuel door replaced.

Also, I discovered that installing the pedals is a lot easier if you remove the seat and steering wheel fing02.gif

Sadly, the nice condition steering wheel that came from tibbychick doesn't fit, apparently there's a difference between a 1998(I think?) and an 01 wheels. Ah well, I'll sell it I guess. Today I got the new brake pedal installed and the holes drilled for the clutch pedal, I need to enlarge the center hole and then we're golden, not too bad for a few hours work.
Now it's question time. The computer I removed from the future home of my clutch pedal, landshark referred to it as the TCU in his DIY, but really, wtf is it and why is it there? I'm guessing it's the transmission computer for the auto that I hopefully don't need anymore and can throw away *crosses fingers*

I haven't thrown it away yet, I'm just trying to figure out if I need it, and secondly where to put it once the clutch pedal takes up that space...

You can put it anywhere you want if you extend the wiring. Lol find a place you want to hide it and tell me how much of an extension you need and I'll make you one, it would be about $175 though lol, it's hard work.
Doubt you want to spend that uch on an extension but it is in essence a plug and play harness, meaning when you want to get a piggy back you take that plug to your desk and attach the piggy back instead of upside down in the driver side foot well lol.

Well where its this computer mounted in a factory equipped manual car? Are the wiring harnesses different or longer? This may be a better solution than cutting and soldering two dozen or so wires. I mean, I've done wiring harnesses before, but I'd rather not do it again if I can avoid it.

The ecu is in the same spot on both cars. It's just really close to the clutch pedal in a 5spd.
It's the same in both my auo and my 5spd tibs. I just finished making my plug and play harness and installed it on my tib. The reason it is so expesive is you buy a junk ecu and take the plugs apart and solder each pin respectively. It is time consuming and you must be very carefull not to wreck a pin while doing it.
It should be fine in the stock position.
by the way, we are talking about this right:

And not this:

First pic is an ecu from a tiburon, 2nd pic is a transmission contorl unit from an elantra(same).
