It's definitely more than 5whp plus gearing is competely different and not beneficial for racing. You only have 4 gears and we have 5.

What is highly modified car is? What you got under the hood?

Reasons why auto are slow:

1. As you said, more drivetrain loss. It probably loses 8whp more than the manual.
2. Gearing. They are less aggressively geared, meaning the gears are longer and the car drops more out of its powerband with each shift.
3. They weigh a little more. 50 pounds or so, but 50 pounds is 50 pounds.

I said lightly modified CAI, Motoria exaust, weight reduction.
I know manuals are better, but I remember Batlord I think got 120 whp and a manual got 125 whp, not trying to argue with you and I am not pretendingg to know about drag racing, I've never done it, only autox where the autos and manuals are actually evenly matched

I have an N/A setup in mind for the future tuning of my automatic. I do have a lot of money to spend as well , but I also like to enjoy mod by mod as much as I can before going through with the next one. I will probably own this car for at least another 4-5 years and since this car is my pride and joy, I figured I'll invest a couple grand into it...

I already have the CAI by AEM, but if I were to include the entire N/A setup...catback system, 4-2-1 headers, bbtb, airram, cam gear, pulleys and let's say a mere 100 lbs of weight reduction (carbon fiber hood/spare tire removal/trunk lining removal/etc) what do you estimate my quarter mile time would be at? Estimations for a 0-60 I'd say are around a flat 7 or low 6's or so..

How about a time in the 1/4 after I send the Tibby to LevelTen for the torque converter? laugh.gif

Manual swap would be great, but the traffic and hills here are too much to bear! And I like the convenience of an automatic

lol yeah OP you can't get that feeling in my car. plus there were two passengers.

autos are annoying man. i can't stand it. i wish it were some other way... i'm seeing walter soon so i'm going to ask him if he has a donor car in which he could swap the tranny and ECU's. there ar6e only four gears and they are longer so manuals would own on cornering and such. i have raced my friends with 5-speed with the similar mods though and i must say we were dead even. that depends on my budget. it also depends on transmission conditions...my auto still might have a liftetime ahead of it. it does drive like new.

autos are easier to drive around, but once you get used to a stick, there's just no difference. i wouldn't conclude that they are that much slower though. maybe by quarters of a second, or a second depending on mods.

2kshark, your time would probably be 16's with those mods. it all depends man. it depends on your tires...etc.

Couple grand is a lot of money? I spent over 6gs on my car over last years.

Sounds like a nice setup, but I say with all of those mods you will run 16 flat. 7.5 0-60.

Never heard anything about them, but I say it will give you another 10-15whp. So maybe 15.6 or so.

Now look at it from my point of view.

I/H/E/P/IM/Weight Red will run you about $2500 or so. With those mods you will run 16 flat.

Manual swap should not cost more than $1500, $2000 tops, and if you know what you are doing you will be a flat 16 second car stock. Now, if you said you have a lot of money to invest, then add those $2500 of mods and you will be a high-mid 14 second car. Do you see what I'm saying man? IMO, it's pointless to mod auto....

Like HKC said, once you get used to it, you will not be complaining about it. I drive my car to school in traffic 3 times a week, stop ang go, stop and go, and I don't even notice that I'm shifting, nor I think about it, I just do it. My mind is doing it for me without thinking!!!

HKC, manual swap should be the next mod on your list man!!!

until friday, i knew the reason what you say about autos...

I drove a manual, and you are right, there is no comparation. it defenetly moves a lot faster than my auto tib, i have more mods and i guess my car is slower than the manual.

i going to try to race with that tiburon and tell you for how much did he beat me. lol

When I said a couple grand I actually meant to say about 9 grand, just for the car.laugh.gif

This'll be my car until long after I graduate though. And if I got my car down to mid-low 15's thats like the times you get with a Civic Si.

It'd be awesome to have a hella fast automatic. A balance of speed and convenience.
