Just so yoy know.. short of being between the radiator and the exhaust.. that is one of the hottest places in the engine compartment.

I think it has a lot to do with airflow.. but if you take your car for a good long drive and then shut her down.. the fender right behind the cornerlights is actually hotter than the sheetmetal over the engine.

BTW.. welcome to the crooked battery club!

well well well...i guess I hav to tell ya something......I got an aftermarket cai(one that goes down under and in the fender well) i did a road test....first stockwith the resonater, drove 120km/hr for 15 minutes and of course it was hot to the touch...later I used my 84 cutlass carburator tubing making a air scoop under the car to the stock filter, same test, but the stock parts were very cold (on hot day)...now for the used cai($25 bucks)...same test, but the pipe gets hot near the mafs from the fan(in all honesty my first test brought in colder air(not the most).tried the battery relocate trick, now the hot air from the rad is redirected!..then I made a ground scoop in the fenderwell which forces the cold air up to the filter being protected by the battery Now my cold air has less piping to travel through! and it is the coldest to the touch of my experiments,If I had a way to test the intake temp it I could proove it.......there CAI!!!!
