Neutral bombs can also damage your motor.
In an auto it doesn't matter what gear you start in, the tranny will always take off from a standing start in first gear. Leaving the shifter in 2nd only holds the car back in second thus not allowing the tranny to shift into 3rd.
Good luck to you man!!!
Oh almost forgot, If you are going to rev up in gear, don't do it until you are sure the lights are going to come down. It only takes 12 sec. to "cook" your tranny fluid. Once the tranny fluid gets to hot it will effect the performance of the tranny and your E.T.s.

Have to say I was playing w/ the TibB on the way home. Did the neutral-GO thing. hahaha Not a good idea. Felt like the bottom of the car was slammed w/ a sledge hammer. hahaha I always gotta learn the hard way.
One more day...........then.......RACIN'!!
THANK YOU guys for being so good about giving me decent advise n not pointing n laughing 'cause I don't know these things YET.
I gotta say the 'brotherhood' of the Hyundai is stronger than the 'posse' of Mustangers.

With the autotragic the best launch I have done like jgraham said:

once you’ve staged, put the transmission in neutral and press HARD on the brake pedal. Rev the engine once, and quickly get off the throttle. The idea is to ‘snap’ the throttle plate shut. This will cause a manifold vacuum spike and you’ll feel the brake pedal sink further to the floor. This greatly increases the holding power of the brakes, and will allow you to rev the engine up higher against the torque converter and give you a harder launch.
Did this all the time with my Tbird I smoked quite a few people to this never feered the v8's my car was fast a$$. But that i think is the best way.

I smoked my motor too. The thermstat went bad I had no clue what was wrong at first it over heated so I let it cool down then filled the radiater with water still no clue at the time. Then ran further all the way to the point of no power from the motor it sounded nasty. Had to replace the motor few months later because it had a hairline facture in the block somewhere. But I miss that car.

I think T-Birds weakest point is the thermostat - I went through 6 or 7 while I had a 1988 Turbo Coupe...even though I replaced the tranny, cyl head, radiator, and more...but what killed it was a 1995 Ford Escort Wagon @ Golf & Busse in Mount Prospect, IL.
