I hate to break it to you buddy, but you're going to have to get an "inspection" for that car, instead of a regular inspection, if there is *no* check engine light. The state inspection specifically checks to see if it comes on, then goes off. No CEL on at key on = fail
https://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/vi/Misc/faq/faq_obdii.htm
The On-Board Diagnostics (OBDII) emissions test for 1996 & newer vehicles consists of the following:
Check 1 - Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or Service Engine Soon Light, Check Engine Light, Check Engine Symbol check
This is considered the bulb check portion of the test. The light must come on when the ignition is turned to the ON position and the light must go OFF when the engine is started. The inspector answers these two bulb check questions as either a PASS or FAIL. If the light is not working, the vehicle will FAIL the test....

Maybe you forget which town I'm in.......
In other news, got my new set of keys and trunk lock re-keyed for $31 at the local locksmith. Knocking down the list slowly but surely.

That's odd, all the F2Evos i've been in have had functioining EML. Although, there as always are some very very odd trim combinations going around, so it doesnt surprise me that some are different...
Can you not just use your original working Dials with the F2 Faceplate?

That's what I did. I put the F2 dials on the original cluster. However, if the light comes on it's still covered up by the dial. There's no translucent icon over the light.

I just got off the phone with Robert at Chrome Tech who could help refinish these Evo badges. He says that they are electro-plated. They are actually rusting and forming pits. He could not do electro-plating, but use another process. In order for him to get started, he would need me to do the prep work which is:
- Soak in Muratic Acid outside. Long term exposure issues is why he can't do this himself.
- Then soak in water
- Buff with a 40 grit wool.
- Ship them off.
He would chrome them, then apply the black paint. This is also tough since the print and depression is so small. His pricing still isn't too bad at around $30-50 a piece.
I'm not sure I want to do this to my only set. I think I'll keep a lookout for another set and use that for this process.

It's for the 98 F2, but still a nice piece of literature and very rare. Stainless steel covers and binder.

LOL, if I had that kind of power, you'd be missing an umbrella and someone else would be missing a chair!
