ok so heres the situation. my turbo knowledge is probably 5/10. and i want to boost my car. i wanna be running at least 13 second 1/4 miles.

so i was looking into it and i found an sr20 bluebird engine swap is DO-able in my car and i was quoted 5 grand for motor and install. i know im gonna run ito more shit so lets call it 6 grand for it. im gonna get 210hp rating @ 6000rpm and it comes with tranny, ecu, and the motor and all.
now my question is. what is the better bang for the buck?
installing 6 grand worth of turbo gear into my car. i have the 2.0 motor. or to go with the sr20 bluebird?

for those who have turbo'd their motors, what did it cost you to do and what is your current HP rating at what PSI level? just to give me and idea of where i am at

For 6 grand and than converting the car back to factory than gutting her and than using light weight wheels with slicks you can run mid 11's

A decent turbo setup is going to run you around $3000-4000. For $6000, you can be doing a lot better than at 13sec 1/4 mile and have about double that 210hp. $6000 is a lot of money for a turbo setup on the Beta, you can do some pretty crazy stuff with that much cash. The beta is a terrific motor to boost, and it's a ton easier than a full swap like that, plus with the swap, all you have is a different motor. Whoopdefriggindo.
Javageek has one of the most powerful Tiburons on here, he was planning on pushing upwards of 400-500hp. Not sure how much money has been invested, but I'm pretty sure it's not over the $6000 mark for just engine. I'll let him speak for himself though.

Bottom line: turbo what you have, it's definitely not worth the hassle of an engine swap, plus there's a ton of experience backing you up on the site.

You might also consider NGM's upcoming supercharger kit, it will make decent reliable power for much less than $6000.. I believe his target is 250whp. You can keep an eye on the thread here:

I don't think you should spend all that to swap a 2L engine with another 2L engine.. Especially when our engine takes boost so well.

Our engine is a Beta 1, it's somewhat similar to a 4g63, but not entirely. thats an evo motor obviously.

Some people have swapped a 4g63 in a tib before. Maybe look into doing that instead of a sr20det. But I still think you would get more bang for the buck if you stick with a good turbo beta setup.

That’s sounds like allot of money for very little improvement. I was quoted $700 for a used (g6ba) Delta motor from an ’05 Tib, including tranny and ECU with low miles, which is about the only reason I’m even thinking engine swap. Even then I’m going to spend quite some time rebuilding it from the ground up before I even think about mounting. As for the swap your thinking, I have seen SR20DET’s from Pulsar GTi-R’s for around $1800 w/ ECU before, some even say they including shipping to the continental US. Here’s one for 2k with ECU and wiring: http://www.jspecauto.com/catalog_cat...spx?cat_id=609

Personally though I would much rather keep a Hyundai Engine in the Tib. Is there not anyone who builds build race blocks for the Beta engines?

The only point to swapping in a different engine would be if ours were not proven to be stout enough to support big power.

CLEARLY the beta 1 is a GREAT engine for boost.

I have about 5k invested in my turbo components and thats including a standalone and all, and I am easily at 275-300 whp, and low 13's on street tires (only have one run on it when the IM was about 200 degrees and I pulled a 2.23 60' = 13.7 @ 103.
My setup cost a bit more because of the turbo being a gt3071r and running the standalone vs an smt6 or something.

Keep in mind I am pushing 13-14 psi on a COMPLETELY stock bottom end and about 10.3:1 compression (beta 2 head gasket and .007" shaved off the head makes a .017" difference).

I personally wanted to keep the hyundai engine in the car just to represent how durable and capable the hyundai powertrain is you know?

But do whatever you like, I say get a haltech E8 standalone (1000-1500) and build the bottom end (1500-2000). Then slap on a decent size turbo t3/t4 50 trim or a gt series and turn up the boost to say 20-25 psi. Total pricing would probably be in the 6000-7500 price range but I guarantee you could hit low 12's, high 11's and about 400+ whp. Whats more fun 210 or 400+? Haha.

lol... i see what you are all saying. beta 1 = good motor so keep it tongue.gif haha. shall do. so im lookin at that thread for the turbo setups grocery list. im gonna be grabbing the best of what i can find on that list for each item and then im gonna be getting a clutch and flywheel upgrade. now when you say "build the bottom end", what exactly does that mean?
