The new Haltech systems can simulate OBD diagnostics right down to the CEL codes. It even can use the OBD port..

What do you mean by "use"? Does it not have its own port? It's too late for me since I ripped out everything under the dash. But Texas doesn't require that crap except for Dallas I think.

You can wire the haltech into the OBD port so when the monkeys jack in they will see a good connection. What I don't know yet is if the etest software can actually read the haltech. I'd doubt it. But in CO all they care about is can they connect to the ECU.

I wonder why no one has built a little unit that supplies false data out an OBD connector? Seems like it wouldn't take much to do so.

Probably a federal Felony case is why.

In all the big cities in Texas, your car has to identify itself properly to the computer in the shop, which is wired into the State system. IF you could get a fake report from your Haltech or whatever that calls out ALL the information the state computer requires I'd be all for it.

SA does not require it, nor has any official inspection station tried to plug into my OBD.

Haltech users: How did you wire up your factory cluster, tachometer specifically? Or did you at all?

Since I'm no longer using the factory ECU or harness, the tach is dead and I either need to find the wire and run one of the outputs to it, or wire in an aftermarket gauge. That Racepak with can bus is looking better and better right now.

My tach works fine, there should be a tach supply wire you can connect the Haltech to. Reference the Chilton wiring diagrams if you have them? I had a plug and play harness custom made so I'm not sure which wire it is...

Maybe I should say all the big, worst-polluted cities and their metro areas.

I don't have a manual, but I'll see if I can locate the wire behind the dash. I cut a few when removing the factory harness. There were a lot of factory splices going on, so I took a pair of scissors to it all. I still have the plug, so I can use a pin diagram and match the color. Maybe the cluster doesn't have a bundle of wires to one location and instead has individual wires leading to the back of each gauge to make it easy to locate.

Should be able to locate pin #47 and tap the same color wire hanging around somewhere:
