Yeah that would NOT be a good day. I need to have it insured for its actual value on the way back...

Got the twin disc today .

Here are some photos:

Here is an image of my Fidanza mated up to the new flywheel to ensure the tooth pitch and diameter is correct. It is. The chamfered edge is on the correct side of the teeth also .

Another image of the CM flywheel vs. the Fidanza, note all of the additional holes that were drilled to mount the new 7.25" friction disc...

I was surprised that it was lighter than my current setup, should make her more rev-happy.

The only issue I have is that the entire assembly is 2.350". You may recall that the total clearance between the TOB and the crankshaft is only 2.250. I'm going to have the TOB they sent put in a lathe so we can turn the bore and allow it to move closer to the transmission (further up the collar). Hopefully I can get an additional .150" - .200" clearance that way. That's all I need to make it work. If you look at the picture below you'll see there is room (I already sanded down the tabs that help retain the fork):

I need to find another junkyard transmission to use in the meantime while I wait for my gear set to be made. I'm looking at about 4 months including shipping if all goes well...

All that money and you STILL need to modify it? UGH!

Did you let CM know about it? See if there's anything they can do for us future customers.

I did call them and ask about a lower profile TOB, but there isn't one. The only thing they could realistically do is remove material from the flywheel flange area, and I'd rather modify the TOB than lose aluminum thickness there. I'm not upset about it. That is the going rate for a standard kit that they sell and they had to do custom work to get this done for me. They actually recessed the contact disc down into the aluminum about .050" in addition to drilling new holes etc.

Unfortunately I do not know if the gearset will work with the GK and hence Beta II transmission. I know the transmission will work with the Beta I engine, but I'm not sure if the internals of the Beta I and Beta II are the same. I believe the Beta II uses some sealed bearings for the mainshafts (at the top near 5th gear if I recall correctly). The Beta I is all tapered roller bearings with separate races. I'm considering converting to sealed bearings as there should be no side load that would require the tapered roller style bearings once I go straight cut.

I can ask about a price drop for multiple orders, but the concern would obviously be compatibility amongst different transmission cases.

He did say I can choose custom ratios since they are building the set from scratch. I figure I'd like to get to 140-150 in 4th... Should make 10 second quarter miles possible.

Got the machine work on the TOB done, this added .135" of clearance so I've got a total gap between the TOB and crankshaft of 2.375".

Total flywheel and clutch width is 2.350". I know .025" is awful tight on clearance, I'm doing a test fit (installing the flywheel and clutch and then bolting up my mock trans with the hole in the bell housing) to determine if I need to make more room...

did you weld on a thicker collar for the bored out TOB? If not your get some SERIOUS TOB shakin going on when you push in the clutch pedal. Which could destroy a whole lot of very expensive things..

I only had to chamfer and bore out a small portion of the ID of the TOB (on the side that faces the trans). Play on the shaft it slides on is comparable to the TOB I removed (which came with the push type conversion).

My car typically breaks when I'm beating the crap out of it, which is all the time .

Why don't you update the timeslip page: https://www.hyundaiaftermarket.org/forum/times/

I'm calling until you provide slips!

Wow I didn't even know that page existed! I've got a timeslip somewhere for my NA time of 14.6 @ 95.95mph somewhere. I'll have to upload that too. You're going to make me dig them out huh? LOL.

Just ordered a set of 17x9.5 wheels w/+30mm offset. I think I'm going to run 295/35/17 Hoosier R6's on them.

Got my spare 98 Tiburon FX trans today and cleaned her up:

Hopefully the inside looks as clean as the outside. I'll be throwing this in the car tomorrow with the twin disc to break in the clutch. This way she will be ready for crazy boost once the trans internals arrive in approximately 4 months...

S##t's getting real serious out here
