I have no doubt that the PG will destroy the differential at 280hp; however, basically the PG is not really meant for high-hp application. It is perfect for a N/A car with all bolts-on, where a Quaife or KaaZ would maybe be a little overkill. We'll see how good (or how bad) it performs with a FI Tiburon; I don't know for sure how much HP I'll be putting down and I don't want to make any assumptions at this point, but if I destroy the diff too, then yes, we'll definitively mark the PG as a POS; but remember, for a "medium-hp" application. That wouldn't mean the PG wouldn't be good for a low-hp application (say to 200hp). My friend with the swapped Accent don't know yet if he'll go turbo this summer, but if he don't, we'll see how well the PG performs on a near-stock car.

You guys seen bad opinions on other forums as well as this one about the PG; I've looked around too, and I found mixed opinions. So we'll just wait and see.

hey, it's your car. tongue.gif like random said, there ARE people out there running the phantom grip, and they haven't had any problems with it, but those are the few. imo, i wouldn't risk it in my tranny. sell it, save up, get a quaife in the group buy. wink

I honestly don't think the problem with the Phantom Grip is the HP put through it. the problem is the way it distributes HP. It is just NOT a good design. Let's face it folks, if GM, Ford, Chevy, Mitsu, etc..etc..etc.. could develop RELIABLE, CHEAP "psudo-LSD"'s like the phantom grip, why wouldn't they do it?

They don't do it, and for a good reason.

I'll be damned, but I just got the latest SCC Magazine and they have a full article on their Neon Project, just installed the PG. I'll read it and see what they say and tell ya.

I personally don't like speculation, and I will only give my opinion on the PG once I have personally installed and tried it on a Tiburon, which is not the case currently, and I'm sure it's the same for all but some people here. I'm neutral, currently. Although we all know that the PG is nowhere near the quality or effectiveness of a real LSD, the contact (in Real-Life, not on the 'net wink ) that I've personally had with people regarding it have all been positive. But I know some people had negative experiences too...

So, can we just wait and see? smile.gif

see you in the help forum... tongue.gif

I strongly encourage you guys to join on the quaife group buy...

Phantom grip doesnt come with a lifetime warranty for a reason.... quaife does

You should read more on the phantom grip accross the boards (honda, hyundai, and dsm)
After some reading... you might reconsider your 300 to 1200 dollar investment (if the tranny gives out)

Ive blown 2 differentials myself... so i wouldint even consider this

The PG DOES come with a lifetime warranty; but it of course only covers the PG itself, not the whole diff or tranny.

And, like I said, I've read accross the boards and, more importantly, I actually had contact with the PG in the past, which is not the case of a lot of people here. Reading stuff on the 'net can only tell you that much; there's ALWAYS better chances of reading negative opinions than positive one. People usually don't post to say "Wow, that stuff is great, no problem with it at all!", but they sometimes do (usually in threads like this one) and it usually rolls out pretty well regarding the PG in those threads.

SCC also installed one in their project Nissan 200 SX 1.6 a while back, because no one else made LSDs for the 1.6. In that article, they mentioned that Hyundai used the PG in their Tiburon race cars. I don't know if they still do, but there you go.

I hate to say it, but SCC is full of crap. They have also claimed that the motorola cup cars used the Phantom Grip, the Kaaz, and a Quaife (even though no unit exists). SCC also posted NO RESULTS as to how the Phantom Grip helped the car's 1/4 mile times or 0-60 times. They HAVE done this for "true" LSD's they have tested.

The truth of the matter is that the Motorola cup team used Kaaz LSD's. The WRC Rally team uses a modified Quaife LSD.
