phantom grip lsd
i hope this isn't blatent post whoring, but, dude, when you have all these people, including RANDOM, telling you what a pos the phantom grip is, i don't know why you'd insist on trying it in your tranny. maybe, if you're an editor for a magazine and have the resources, slap that biatch in there and watch it break and take your tranny with it, but if you're just a guy with limited resources and one tranny like the rest of us, save the money and buy a quaife or kaaz. if i lived near you, i'd come and slap you until you woke up. tongue.gif
:edit:
none of us are getting paid by any companies, as far as i know. we are just trying to help all the users on this board. for the love of god, don't run the phantom grip! smile.gif
:edit, again:
it's also not how much whp the phantom grip can take, it's how much abuse (i.e., drag launches, etc...).

Why not let him make his own decision? Its not your decision, you'vei hope this isn't blatent post whoring, but, dude, when you have all these people, including RANDOM, telling you what a pos the phantom grip is, i don't know why you'd insist on trying it in your tranny. .
made your point, let him do what he wants.
I had a PG on my car and i guess i'm allowed to give my opinion.
What works for some people don't work for others.
There's a Mitsu mirage 1.8 custom turbocharged making 11.1 1/4 miles 1.8 in 60 feets with huge slicks and it uses a PG.I'm a witness of what i just wrote and i saw it with my own eyes.
I also know a guy who used to have a 227 whp hyundai tiburon with a PG,nitto drag radials and in a launch broke it axles, diff, bellhousing and pressure plate. He didn't gave up and installed the PG again and broke another diff. This guy is a stubborn MF and installed the PG again and this time he broke the final gear.He took off the PG sold it and lost faith. Then he pump up the boost and dynoing the car the stock diff gave up again. What he learned?
Our trannys are a POS.
#1 theres no clutch proved to withstand more than 300WHP that doesn't cost an arm or leg.
#2 the diff case is made of clay.
#3 the posible solution cost $1000+ (quaiffe)
It is not the PG is the tranny and how it handles the power.I'm not ready to shell out another 1000 bucks install a quaiffe and realize the tranny is the problem itself.Thats why i'm going to swap the tranny for a mitsu unit and give it a try
Install the PG and weld the center pin of the diff and enjoy it while the tranny lasts.Good Luck!
I got pics i'm sending them to random to post them.

Ok here, god where can we start...
Our 2001 Motorola cup tiburon are running KAAZ units.
Our 2003 Grand am cup tiburons were running Phantom grip units for the first 3 races of the season, and they worked great.
For the rest of the season, we ran QUAIFE diffs, YES QUAIFE DIFFS. They were supplied by SCHUMANN AUTOHAUS from germany, who run Tiburons in a national rally serie.
The PG units are NOT designed to be installed on highly-moded cars. They are a "band-aid" for traction issues, that's it. The v6 model, with the spring upgrade, will hold up to 240 Whp with no damage to the differential what so ever. And keep in mind that we take appart the trannies after every race to see if there's internal damage.
The information you get on the web, do not always reflect the real world... Just like television. Make your own opinion based on facts, not on what other consider being the truth, when all they know about it is what they heard or read.

I hate to say it, but SCC is full of crap. They have also claimed that the motorola cup cars used the Phantom Grip, the Kaaz, and a Quaife (even though no unit exists). SCC also posted NO RESULTS as to how the Phantom Grip helped the car's 1/4 mile times or 0-60 times. They HAVE done this for "true" LSD's they have tested.
The truth of the matter is that the Motorola cup team used Kaaz LSD's. The WRC Rally team uses a modified Quaife LSD.
First of all... I don`t know where you get your informations Random, but you were mislead. The truth of the matter is that the Motorola cup team used Kaaz LSD's. The WRC Rally team uses a modified Quaife LSD.
