this is funny, i am just now reading all of this and i am remembering back when i put the zex dry kit on my car with a cai, i barely broke into the 14's with that set up and i had a 55 shot on the car. matter of fact i still have that slip, i went 14.9 at 89mph. ohhh my god that was slow....

but i totally agree, 14's with basic N/A mods and no nitrous. possible if you totally strip the car and just have the driver seat and race with 2 sapre tires in back and drag radials in front for a super high reved launch and never missing a gear.

i was reading super street or something a while back when they did this to a nissan maxima or altima but they actually cut the roof off and took the doors off, i mean it was all cut up.

14.9@89mph? Damn you screwed up lol... 89MPH trap speed should run like 15.7 in the quarter lol. You messed up in the top-end somewhere.

I ran a few 15.6s and 15.5s the other day, as they opened the track cause it had warmed up a bit where I live with just Intake/Exhaust. (350 above sea level, inland, 50% humidity, 74 degrees). Took the GSX as well and didn't do as well, ran 12.7 @ 108mph.
----------
I really think 14-14.5 is possible with only marginal N/A on street tires at the right track at the right time with some tuning.

- AEM Intake
- SR 4-1 Header
- Custom 2.5 mandrel exhaust
- Hi-Flow Cat
- SR Pulleys (Crank, Water, Steering)
- 1.8L Intake camshsaft
- Copper Plugs, one step hotter
- Cam sprocket
- 61mm Bored Throttle Body
- Short-running Intake Manifold
- SAFC-II
- Ground Wires with Battery stabilizer

Thats probably about 2500 buckeroos and will put you about 170WHP I would imagine. Similar engines to the Beta put down that. With a little porting and polishing, Boring out the block, 272 cams, and a little higher compression, I would think 185WHP street-driven is possible.

There are built N/A 420A engines pushing 200-220WHP in America street-driven. The 420A is the N/A engine in 2G Eclipses for those that don't know. They are very similar to the Beta.

hmmm. Doubt that you can get low 14s with just NA mods. High 14s would be more realistic.

Also, there might be a problem with so much power and street tires. You might want to spend some money to have something wider than stock and a lot sticker than stock tires.

LOL. Naturally Aspirated 4-cylinder street and too much power don't belong in the same sentence unless your talking a fully built just drag setup. Some All-Motor Civics run mid 10s. wink.gif Not street-legal though.

170 to the wheels would put you about even with a FWD Turbo-Eclipse. They run 14.8-15.0 stock where I run at. I'm sure some stickier street performance tires and minus the minute turbo lag (probably about 0.2-0.3 seconds in a stock turbo DSM all together in a quarter mile run) at the right track and elevation would get you mid low-mid 14.

First, I have to win over my parents. I think me running around with a GSX and '82 Vette taught them a little. They want me to keep the Tibby stock as they think I've modified enough vehicles. lol.gif

If I come up with 1300 more smackeroos I'll have enough for I/H/E/BBTB/BIM/Pulleys/1.8l cam and fix this humongous dent in the side of my car where someone did a hit and run on me.

I would like to see that too..I havn't heard of anybody getting a low 14 n/a. It would be alot cheaper to run a turbo in the long run.

Bleh, turbos cost more unless your car has a large aftermarket and prices go down. We don't. Tib turbo = money out the ying yang. Lets take this as you want to hit low 14 and you know what your doing but your not a turbo expert nor a mechanical engineer.

Hypothetically, lets assume your goal is 175whp n/a. Intake(100), Header (350), Exhaust(200), BBTB and Intake Manifold(100 if you do yourself), 1.8L Cam(100), SAFC-II(250), Grounding/Voltage Stabilization(300), MSD-DIS II(250), Cam Adjustment(100) Plugs/Wires(100) and some dyno time (500). Thats easy 175 without touching anything internal. 2400 bucks with awesome tuning.

You hit 180WHP on a turbo Beta I would bet at 8 PSI with non-aggressive fuel tuning. On a turbo Beta without an Intercooler 8 PSI is not possible safely. So we need that from Tim in addition to his Basic Kit. 2400. You need an exhaust. 200, same as above. We need fuel tuner, SAFC again for 250. We need dyno time, 250. 3100 bucks. Turbos are high maintenence and higher fuel grade and less gas mileage. I didn't even factor in the hidden extra costs.

If you build your own kit, go custom, rebuild the parts yourself, etc. Sure, turbo will be cheaper. If you want more than 180WHP, sure, turbo will be cheaper.

If you have to pay someone to install your turbo (low-mid mechanical inclination) then the prices will be definitely higher and N/A wins again.

Sorry man, but that won't give you 175hp.

If the engine is in good shape, its cleaned, maintenence performed early, and its done on a DynoJet...(I don't use Mustang and other dynos, inaccurate) you will see those numbers. Similar engines on similar cars make similar numbers.

Here's some slippies. I lost my best run but these are close enough. Check out who I was running against, my must be bad luck. If you look at my reaction time, I gave the Supra a head start just in case he was a 11 second car and I didn't want to have him run into my lane like an idiot or something. Turns out it was a N/A Supra with about 200k miles on it that had compression problems. lol.gif The Eclipse was N/A as well, automatic, and I don't know how the hell he ran such a crappy time lol. He either blew his tranny or engine... don't know which.
