I just read an article this afternoon about a similar law in California, but at least these kids were actually CAUGHT RACING. (Still, seeing a pile of crushed tuner cars with fancy kits and nice wheels was quite saddening.) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19339955

After a second read I realized they weren't necessarily caught racing - they were all caught with hot parts on their cars. According to the police they interviewed though, this appears to be an attempt to stop the street racing epidemic in SoCal.

Its one thing if you are caught racing. Then you deserve you have your car crushed. It is quite another to have your car crushed if you do some light-mild modding and race on a track.

Car junkies who pour thousands of dollars into their vehicles to make them as fast as possible are wasting their money, Bryant said. He warned potential racers that all it takes is a tip from police to seize and destroy their cars.

Seems to me that the if you are caught modding, no matter the reason, your f*cked damnit.gif

I think its a good idea, as long as they bust and squish the cars that are CAUGHT street racing. but then again, I think the same thing SHOULD be done for the people that drive cars drunk, or high. also driving cars that are not insured.

hmmm, a few of them things i just mentioned have been done by members herein the last few months and nothing was said. say one thing about street racing and the warnings and banishment is rampid. breaking laws in ANY which way should be the same way we treat street racing, just my opinion.

now i dont agree with the cars that are daily drivers that people mod to improve looks, mileage, and or performance. just by adding a snail or a snuffer on your car doesnt mean we are all going to turn into mad max.

Isn't there a way to appeal the law through petition or something? I mean seriously. People like the majority of us who don't waste the gas on street races unless we know it's safe and usually take it to the track where it really matters shouldn't be punished for a few people's actions. Of the 13 people that have been killed due to illegal street races this year in Ontario, 9 were the racers themselves. The drivers knew that the potential for death or injury comes with the territory. I'm not sure I see that lasting that long because eventually people will realize that it could be applied to anything that even resembles a race car, or for that matter a truck or SUV that's lifted or has a body kit and euro lights on it. That law is just bullshit all the way around and I can easily forsee a mass public outcry against it. The video is on yahoo news for those of you who haven't seen it the link is here -

I think by crushing peoples cars they are gonna cause bigger problems and more deaths in the long run. I bet alot more people will be running from the police now instead of pulling over since they are gonna loose the car anyway more and more peolpe are gonna take the chance to get away and save their car and in turn there will be more accidents and deaths of the innocent because of it.
