might cause a few more deaths by fleeing....perhaps. but ANYONE that is breaking the law, that knows they are doing it WILL try outrun the cops to avoid prison in any way shape or form.

what kills me is the parents that are not controlling their children, they need jail time as well.

So what if you have a car where the actual manufacturer has its own aftermarket parts for it like Mazda, Dodge etc.... Or what if you get caught street racing in an unmodded car... does it still get crushed? The law seems a little discriminitory and I dont think they should be able to do anything to the car until there is a conviction. Interesting law to study for a criminology paper.. I'll have to keep it in mind if I have to write one this quarter.

this is the region where Hyundai Sunday is, right? And from the first link, this IS CURRENTLY THE LAW, not just a "could be" or a "proposal"... right?

"If we can establish someone has parts and they're juicing up their car - obviously for the purpose of street racing - then we can seize those vehicles,"
well, I guess my car, as well as just about every other HS attendee is as risk of being seized. I can't imagine the constant fear of those who live there with a modded daily driver.

I don't know if it's just my area, but the police never bother all of the muscle cars, hot rods & rat rods that we have around here. But they'll pull any compact car with a body kit (stock engine or not) if you don't have a front plate on the front bumper. At my job, there's an old camaro with track slicks on the back (they've got to be nearly 18" wide), no tags, no inspection, that stops by the hot dog stand in the plaza where I work every sunny day for lunch... and that guy never gets harassed by the 5-0.

If Vin Diesel taught us nothing, it's that muscle cars street race too (I've seen it on the highways here too). But none of these stories about crushing cars in the news lately say anything about muscle or classic cars.

Maybe it's time to switch to a slightly different car modding hobby.

This just sucks!
Everywhere they take these rules to where ever they want to..

Here in Holland we only have one Dutch car maker 'Spyker' but that's for the high class people.. You don't see them often.
So every car that is modified in some way it just screwed.
Your only allowed to have a 90db exhaust, yes ofcourse I don't like the overdone screaming cans that 'rule' the road.
Mines louder then 90, but it still stays at a low tone. Not anoying, but you cross 91db they give you a big fine and one week later you have to come back and show/hear them you've done something about it, or bad things will happen 02.gif...

Luckely here they will not do anything if they ain't see anything, well most of the time.. They will pull you over just to see if you have got anything wrong..

I don't believe that they could just take and crush your car for driving into Canada. You are an AMERICAN citizen afterall.

apparently they can do this now. its being appealed and i know personally sevral people that have wrote sevral letters to sevral people about the injustice and stupidity to this law. and today i went in and talked to my law teacher and she told me you can deny a seizure untill its taken to court. so your still safe just the harrassment is gonna be way worse. and whats funny is that cars that are visually a target are the ones that wont have a big snail under the hood mainly cuz all the money is invested in the appearence.

my brothers audi A4 was lowered 1.5 inches and that was the only thing you could notice visually, besides the FMIC and audi S4 body kit, but you would only notice that if you were hardcore into audis and if he didnt debadge his car. he only got pulled over once for his liscence plate in his front window. and if they asked him to pop his hood they woulda notice he had a full borla exhaust, a big ass turbo, Blow off valve, and all this different shit with more then 350 all wheel horse power.

I find it hard to beleive that they can claim any modification made to a car is soley for the use of street racing. Not only that, but I would think that confiscating and destroying the vehicle before charges were filed and proven in a court of law would be considered a gross violation of due process. And this appears to apply soley to sport compacts, what about muscle cars? Will the "classics" as most adults view them be just as indiscriminately destroyed? There is also the issue of motorcycles which in my experience have been far more dangerous. I was passed by one last night on the lane line between lanes and almost lost control of my vehicle.

I dont see how destroying property before proof of its misuse can be considered legal on any level, unless a prima facia case is proven by the government.
(okay, my law class language is taking over, I need to stop now)

If I lived in Canada, I would be writing/calling my representative to get that law stricken from the books or changed

I knew this would happen, only difference is I thought it'd happen sooner than now.

I knew shit was gonna hit the fan when back home 6 different police dept's and the highway patrol all created "squads" to work from 11PM to 5AM in one area of S. Seattle (where 3 city lines met). And then the helicopters (3 or 4 at a time usually) and the drug sniffing dogs. And the best part of all, very tall light poles (like 50 ft.) with giant blue rotating beacons on top that turned on when a certain noise level was observed between the hours of 11PM and 5AM. There were 3 or 4 in the "racers" favorite spots around S. Seattle. One was by the train tracks and always went off for false alarms, so the cops stopped responding and that place became "blue light."

Too many precautions being taken, and still "racers" racing and doing stupid things. (EX: a pack of hundreds of cars on HWY 169 being followed on the ground by a couple cop cars in the back and a helicopter above. Idiots get the idea to turn off their headlights and see if the front of the pack can lose them. ..crashes subsequently followed, as well as arrests, and I'm sure a few parents got some awakening phone calls..).

I HATE everyone involved in the creation of the fast and the furious...
