i think thats what i said. haha

i said on RD's, do NOT take off the screws. on RD2's you can.
QUOTE (tibby01)
they contain big bolts in between each wheel stud that hold together the whole hub/spindle/rotor assembly. you CANNOT remove those.

oooooh, that explains it better for me (and i'm sure for others). i thought that on Captive rotors, it was the same thing as the Screw on RD2s.....just went deeper into the hub

i was partially right tongue.gif

is there a VIN code to figure that out?? my manufacture date was Sept of '01 i believe (i'll have to check on that...but not now, it's raining and i don't wanna get wet). would that be a "end of the line" one?

I don't think so, a bit further. Mine is a Sept 01 MFR date and has a Beta 1.

QUOTE (tibby01)
NO. DONT DO THIS!!!!

the two screws that are on NON-CAPTIVE rotors you can remove. they are apparently used just in the assembly line to hold the rotor on to the hub.

CAPTIVE rotors are much different!!!! they contain big bolts in between each wheel stud that hold together the whole hub/spindle/rotor assembly. you CANNOT remove those.

Correct. When you take your rims off you'll see 2 small phillips head screws on the face of your hub. Those can come off.

Personally, RD1's for looks but late 2001's for all the newer upgrades, like the better shifter,... One thing I Don't like, on is the 2 cat Cali emmissions on the 2001's though!

Draw backs of RD1s:
97: shifter sucks, Evap Canister, Captive Rotors
98: Captive rotors
99: Best RD1's wink1.gif

When I got mine, the 00's just came out and I had a choice, but the bug eyes on the RDs just turned me away. So I got my 99

And Andy: There are NO BETA II's in RDs in North America. I have NEVER seen one. BETA II's started in the Elantra XD's. In Europe or where ever else, there might be,... Heck in Europe, they have a 1.6L GK you can get,... why you'd get a 1.6L 3000lbs car? I dunno.

No, captives are ROTORS, not DRUMS. I think you'd have them all around if you had them.

WTF?

No offence mang, but you have 4 wheel DISK brakes.

Calipers are what make you stop, you push the pedal, the calipers push the pads onto the DISKS.

Maybe there is some confusion here?
