Hey guys, I'm currently an XD owner and a mod on elantraxd.com
I got my XD as a gift and it was automatic, I've done lots of mods to it, which made it a little faster (16.5 E/T), but not fast enough for me smile.gif
I was thinking about getting another XD w/ manual tranny and then putting a turbo in it, but there are no kits available for XDs. I was also thinking about making a custom turbo kit, but I really don't wanna go through a problem of converting my car into return system and dealing with MAP sensor, although MAP sensor will let me go higher than MAF, but for now I'm not shooting for more than 210-220 whp smile.gif
So, I want your opinion and feedback on 1st and second gen tibby's. I pretty much like them both, but which one would you recomend and why.

any opinions will be appreciated.

thanks

pashka

Default CO2 refills?

2nd gen, hands down.

It looks the best, and has the most improvements off of the base 97 1st Gen.

Get a late model year 2001 and you'll be happy as punch.

i like everything about the second gen more, even stock looks. but when modified, i dont think i could find a second gen to top nightshark's or blacktib's car with looks.

All first and second gen tibs (EXCEPT 97 REV A, and maybe a few 98's, capitve rotors???) are the same except for the body and a couple of interior items. ride quality and handling is the same for all years (all use same suspension).

Reliablity wise like REDZ said, get the newest one you can, or the lowest milage one you can.

On another note, i believe www.kspec.com has a turbo kit for XD's

I say go for a 99. They are more updated than the 97-98 with non captive rotors, but I believe they still have the return fuel sytem. From what I've read the return fuels sytem is easier to adjust for boost. I love my 2001 but if you plan on modding, You could get a 99 for cheaper and have more money left for mods. I actually think the gen 1's look better with a body kit than gen 2's with a kit also.

Shoot mang, you should have seen Davids car with the Zefiro Turbo Ed. Kit on it. Even Gary has an AWESOME looking 2nd gen, the 1st gens just look too simple for me.

Trying to find some stuff for the 1st gens is almost impossible, and they do have some problems that were fixed in 2000 and 01. A late model 01 will give you some problems with finding correct part #'s because of changes, but that's about it.

As for the taillights, I'm not a fan of the stockies on either, black euro tails make it ALL better.

2nd gen all the way my buddy has a 99 that he lets me drive all the time, but compared t omy 2000, i think its a little bit smoother to shift. handling = the same, same engine, really the only thing diff. is front body, rear end, and the interior. either way youll be happy

Well, simple.

You'll get a LOT more looks in a 2nd gen.
