Thanx for all the replies smile.gif
All the tibs until 2003 have beta1 and therefore they have return system.
Thats true that kspec has a turbo kit for XDs, but i dont have 4 gs to give out of my pocket, thats just way too much for me! and tibbies will always be faster with the same amount of hp than xds.
If I had to choose I'd probably get rd2, but i have some financial problems, and if i decide to get 1st gen then I will be able to afford it in just a month or two, rd2 is a different story.
Looks are on the second place for me.
is there is a huge difference in interior?
As of modifications, is it really that hard to find aftermarket products for rd1?
Smothnes of shifting would be possible with new clutch and a flywheel, am i right?
what problems did 1st generation have? are there any significant problems with 2nd gen?

thanks again

2nd gens have a propensity for blowing headlights, easy to bypass this though either w/ HIDS or by simply waiting 20 -30 seconds after starting to turn them on. thats the only major probl;em i've heard of for 2nd gens.

The interior in both is pretty similar. The 1st gen is more smoothed and doesn't have all the silver accents. The 2nd gen has lots of silver accents and you feel MUCH more like you are in a cockpit.

The RD1 and 2 share about 93% of parts, so it's not hard. Body styling and a few other things are harder to find with the RD1.

Whoever said there was a shifting issue, I don't know if there was a problem with the car they were driving maybe, but mine has no shifting issues. A Short Shifter will negate any real issues in that department.

BOTH RD's have an issue with blowing headlights easily. Both have some similar rattles that we are now identifying to get rid of. 1st Gens do have captive rotors in most cases limiting your Rim choices, and brake choices. Some 1st Gens also have the REV A nightmare, so even a CAI is a hard buy on that one.

2nd gen problems? The headlights are the only real issue I can think of. Even the seatbelt recall was fixed (Supposedly) in the later models.

What's captive rotors? not familiar with it, sorry. how would it limit rim choices?

Is it comfy to sit n both cars? I'm 6'2" and pretty wide, and when i was sitting in GK i think i was hitting my head against the sealing

To be honest mang, I really don't know much about the Captive Rotor thing. I know it's there, I know it's a problem for rims and brake kits, but other than that, I don't know much about it. You can do a swap though.

RD1's can use the same CAI's as RD2's, unless you have a Revision A 1997 Tiburon. They had this vapor cannister that sat in the area the CAI's go down.

I'm 5foot 10.5 inches tall and weigh 240, no problems for me. You'll have some issues at 6foot 2 though.

Not true. I've got a beta2 in my 2001. I thought they started with the beta2's for the 2000 model year.

I'm 6'2" and have now issues with interior space. I drove a 2003 right after they came out, though, and I think they changed the head room. I remember feeling like I was cramped in the GK. When I got back in my Tib it felt so roomy.

Andy, nope, I've got a 2001 Beta 1.

Some of the VERY end of the line got Beta 2's.

captive rotors: pretty much have somethin to do w/ the screw thats in between 2 of the wheel studs. even though the RD2's have 'em, you can take 'em out and not worry about any issues. apparently if you take 'em off on the RDs, somethin bad could happen. thats what i've figured.

is there a VIN code to figure that out?? my manufacture date was Sept of '01 i believe (i'll have to check on that...but not now, it's raining and i don't wanna get wet). would that be a "end of the line" one?

NO. DONT DO THIS!!!!

the two screws that are on NON-CAPTIVE rotors you can remove. they are apparently used just in the assembly line to hold the rotor on to the hub.

CAPTIVE rotors are much different!!!! they contain big bolts in between each wheel stud that hold together the whole hub/spindle/rotor assembly. you CANNOT remove those.
