Tip For Fiberglass Enclosures
cool, sounds good. Yeah i live in rockville and work in Sterling,va, fvcking sucks trying to get home during rush hour, so i usually stay down there late.
Tibby01 is also in our area.
well since you are working w/ the FG, would you be interested in building me a kick panel for either the 8w3 or a 6w0 ??? for a fee of course. I don't have ANY experience w/ the stuff.
wink.gif
Also i noticed that you've got a red tib, is that a 1st or 2nd gen???
any plans for a body kit in the future??? if so, let me know, i've got some body damage and could use a new rear bumper, and maybe a hood too, if you replace that.

Cool!! Yeah, actually my bro and I are getting ready to hopefully open a custom car audio shop in Bowie.I would love to do some work for you, but I won't build kicks for the bass. The Tib doesn't have enough room down there even for 2" speaker pods.Plus the sound ain't that great.I'll have to let you hear my set up.I'm not finished yet,but it's pretty sweet as it is now. We'll have to talk about what I can do for your system.
Yeah my Tib is 2nd gen.Hopefully some time this summer it won't be red any more. There's a junk yard down here near me that has a few 1st gen's and I think one 2nd.I don't know what they have in the way of body parts though.

actually the passengers side has plenty of room for a 6w0 or an 8w3. someone here has a really good pic of the passenger side too, i'll do a search for it tomorrow, and post the link here.
and the body parts was just wishful thinking

Out of curiosity, have you ever listened to a system that had one subwoofer mounted in one kick panel? From my experience, mid bass freq's should be stereo. It helps the Sq and the stageing.
If you were planning to use the mid-bass/mid-range in the doors, for midbass then use the JL in the kick panel for lower bass, there's a couple problems with that.(1) Your stage height will suffer big time, and (2) Either one of the JL's you are thinking about isn't going to go much lower then 30hz.Which isn't a problem if you don't listen to music that goes lower then that.
The only way to fix problem (1) is to to what I did and use custom a-pillar pods for the midrange/trebble, or use tweeters in the a-pillars that can be high passed at a lower freq like 2Khz.And those are hard to find.I know Polk used to have some, but I don't know if they do any more or not.Problem (2) can be fixed by using a trunk sub with a better low end response,to fill out the 6W0.
I think the 6W0 would be a better choice. It's a little smaller then the 8.I'm not sure, but the 8 might need a bit more volume. Also, there wouldn't be much gain in bass output between the 2. The 6W0 only needs 75Wrms,and I think the 8W0 needs 100 or 125Wrms.That's not enough of a power increase from the 6W0 to even give you an extra 3db of bass. Also, the Xmax's are probably about the same,as well as cone surface area. So, in my opinion go slightly smaller with the 6W0.It's also very impressive to hear that little thing do what most 10's can do.

i can't seem to find the pic, but it looked like one of the Qlogic kickpanels you can get (but not for tibs 02.gif ), looked very professional.
you talking about frozenfoodman's kick panels on hp.com? chek his profile, hes got some pictures in there of them.
YES TIBBY!!! thanks chris. I'll go search for it and grab a link.

well madtib : heres a run down of the system i will be installing over the next couple of months :
2 sets of JL XR650CXi's (front and rear, new, bought off ebay) in stock locations, may add another set of tweeters in the sail panels, but i want to hear what it sounds like w/o them first.
1 JL 12w6 (original, not even AE, brand new never used)
k, guys now don't laugh b/c it will only be temporary but :
1 Sony 2 channel 150wrms amp to the 12w6
1 Sony 4 channel 60wrms to the 650's
BTW i also have the 2000 top of the line sony headunit which was the CDXM750 (7 band EQ, independant level control, {ILO fader} crossovers (12db/oct) and 4v preamp outs for Front Rear and Sub, 4 stage soundstage height adjustment {DSO} and seating position adjustment)
Right now I'm running Sony 3way front 6.5's and 6x9's off the headunit (corssovers work for both preamp outs and speaker level) and a powered 8" kenwood DVC tube (that i've had for 9 years). sounds decent, i know the jl stuff will sound a hell of a lot better though.
Now heres a couple of other issues for you to think about and the main reasons why i'd rather go w/ the 8w3 :
1.) Do you know of any good amps that are mono or bridgable to ONLY 75w RMS???? the 8w3v2 d6 has alot more options for amplification.
2.) Other people rarely ride in my car, so if the kick panel mounted sub was aimed at the drivers head, wouldn't this create much more FRONT bass??? thus improving imaging??
3.) the 8w3's sealed enclosure range is only .3 -.5 cubic feet, of cousre i'd want to keep it as low as possible due to the space requirements.
Now here are the calculations i did :
3.1427 (pi) x (r x r) x L = volume (measurements are in feet)
( close ) (5" x 5") x 6" =
3.1427 x (.42 x .42) x .5
3.1427 x .18 x .5 = 0.29 cubic feet
now this is a little low but if it was strechted into an oval instead of a using a circle or even a teardrop shape, there should be plenty of internal volume even w/ taking out the 0.035CF for driver displacement.
My idea for this is to have the driver pretty much right where the stock kickpanel sits, sitting out a bit of course, and using all of the dead space from there back toward the firewall and up towards the glove box.
what do you think??
