Short Shifter
All it's really gonna do is make you reach farther for it and it'll make it look good. Other than that your not gonna notice a difference. I'd buy the SR short shifter if you were gonna go that far. Cutting it is a bitch and if you ever wanna change it you can't. This is just my personal opinion. You can do what you want but I wouldn't recommend it. Later

Everyone else already beat me to it.
#1. COULD you...yes. It just wouldn't do nearly as much as you are thinking. By only shorting the shaft, you are not altering throw by much...just throw HEIGHT. To really shorten the throw, you need to lower the top and extend the bottom.
Look at it this way. You have a 10"....straw. You put a pin in the direct center of the straw. put the bottom end of the straw in a cup. See how far you can move the top of the straw before the bottom hits the edges of the cup.
Now cut 2" off the top of the straw...but keep the pin in the same spot. now move the top of the straw around. There is a reduction in throw/movement in the top of the straw..but not nearly what you were looking for.
Now... Move the pin till it is only 1 " below the top edge of the straw.
Put the straw back in the cup. Now see how much reduction in throw there is?
You shorted the shaft by 20%.(2" of a 10" straw)...and it didn't do much...
You raised the fulcrum (pin) and you saw a HUGE reduction in throw movment.
That is why it is a combination of the two...that makes the difference...

Ihave the sharkracing shifter, and the throw is much shorter than before. I put a plastic tube on the shaft to raise it a bit. I did this only to make it a little bit easier to shifter. It now works like a champ. When racing I certainly see a major diffrence. My only small problem now is to find a leather carbon fiber shift knob.

I just bought the sr short shifter, and it definately is not the same as the stock shifter. It has completely different pivot points, which in turn makes for a shorter shift. Simply cutting the arm will not shorten shift throw. Also, does anyone know an easy way of modifying the black platic piece under the shifter so the sr short shifter doesn't hit the little "fins" on it?
Thanks in advance!

Yes...cut it down.
