Short Shifter

WEll I just went around to my head Engineer's here at work [mechanical] and logically my thought will work...Only thought they all had was the amount of "power" it would take to shift with it being located so low. I am going to cut it off right below where it angels toward you {sitting in driver seat} and slide my shiftwer knob down, mark transfer holes with marker {for set screws} drill little dimples ..and mount...should be like a 1/2hour mod...Now my thought is: Do I need to take any metal parts off to do this? Or could I use a dremel tool to cut it off? I know taking it off would be the reccomended suggestion....Does the main {with shifter} bracket come off easy? If so, then I will take it off to cut and drill dimples....I just need to check the ID and OD of the shifter knob and shifter rod {on bracket} to make sure things will go smooth.

I don't see why you would have to take the shifter out to cut it just be careful. As far as drilling holes why do you have to do that for the know if you get an aftermarket one it comes with screws that just bump against the metal to hold it on. Let me know how it goes cause I want to do it too.

Dude there is a big diff between cutting down your stock shifter and buying a short shifter. Cutting down your stock shifter isn't gonna shorten the throw it's gonna shorten the shifter that's it. A short shifter has a diff angle on it towards the bottom of the linkage. Cutting it down wont make a licking diff. Trust me. My buddy cut his down and it didn't do anything. I had a short shifter on my old car and that made a diff. Buy the SR one. It works.

I agree, Why butcher your set up for almost no gain!?
You will probably only se about 5-10% of a throw difference as your gear lever will be slightly shorter, plus you will end up reaching further to get to the stick as it will be so low! depending on how much you take off and believe me to make a difference you will have to cut cut cut!?. An actual short shifter is almost the same height as the stock one ( Negligable difference) and it reduces throw by up to 50%,
I have a shark racing short shifter and the difference was roughly 55%, and it rocks. Also if i want to put the factory one back on i can as i did not try and cut it to bits!?!?

I think the short shifting comes from the upper length as well as the length of the lower part of the shifter. In other words from the the fixing mechanism up and down. You gain some on the top but there is a lot to gain at the bottom. Also the ratio of length between the lower part and top part changes the force to be aplied for shifting.

So would what I want to do be reccomended? {for the time being} So i can focus on other mod's prior to Nopi. Would this improve shifting on a noticable level? I mean between gears, not how much harder it will be to shift. Please advise.
