Automatic to Manual conversion
My Swap went perfect with no modifications at all.YES your CEL with remain on and should display a CODE P1613 which is MIL REQUEST SIGNAL CIRCUT HIGH INPUT.
Also Cant locate TCM which is your Automatic Computer. Then if you install the TCM back in the code will then read P1611 which means MIL REQUEST SIGNAL CIRCUT LOW INPUT.
YOUR CEL will always remain on but its not a big deal.Just purchase an OBD2 scan Tool and you can check for CEL periodically to see if there are any codes!!! THAT WHAT I DO!!

Here's what I can remember:
Manual transmission (duh)
Shifter mechanism
shift cables
clutch master cylinder, etc
flywheel
clutch
pressure plate
driver's side tranny mount

there has to be a way to get that CEL off, i could not deal with the CEL always being on</div>The Only way to get rid of the CEL is to actually sit down and figure out how to loop the wires to fool your ECU that its an AUTO again.GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

2uniq u know u could just call up a junkyard and offer to trade them an AUto ECU for a Manual ECU they should take it cuz they get both the Auto ECU and TCU from ur Auto</div>The manuel and Auto ECU are the same and like i said even if you install the TCM computer it will still throw a CEL
I tried all this already!! smile.gif

all of this is fine and dandy,
the toughest questions to answer are..
1. does the speedo gear in the auto trans mate to the new manual trans?
2. if it does not, how do we fix this problem? and do we have to replace the guage cluster to fix this problem if it exists to begin with.?
3. what are the model and year hyundais that i can get a manual trans that will be a direct bolt-in fit to my 1999 elantra 2.0L ?
( i once did an auto to manual swap in a 1994 nissan sentra, and all i had to do was swap the gear in the speedo cable, then it went right into the manual trans, so i'm curious as to exactly how to go about doing it with this elantra )
