Ahh, good point Mad. Ive seen HID's but never at startup. I was unaware that they are not instant on. How does this affect going from high to low?

Thanks KayJai.

HIDs do not light up instantly, the bulb is lit with a high-voltage spark, in the thousand volts range. They need a little delay to charge the needed energy. Once they're lit, they need little power to stay on.

What I want to know is, of all of you that have adjusted your lights, how many of you did it make a difference for?

honestly, I do not know what you people expect of your lights... save for a friend with the Lexus coupe.. the lights on my Tib are better than EVERYBODY elses car I know.. I get a nice cut off just below the vision of oncoming drivers and I get a nice "curtain" of light across the road...

*edit*

I just saw Redz question. When I first got my tib I thought the headlights sucked royally. On the way home my first night, I almost hit a guy on the side of the road because I did not see him AT ALL. It was then that I realighned my lights, using another car as my base line. I parked my tib facing another car about 50 feet away and began raising up the lights using the adjusters. I found that at that distance, if my lights JUST strike the top edge of the hood on that car (it was a squared off pontiac) I would not blind oncoming drivers because of the sharp cut off's our cars have and still be able to see most of the road.

Realighning your headlights is the FIRST and most important mod you can do to you car.

Kit you have the cheap hyper white bulbs. HID's are High Intesity Discharge kits. These kits include a ballast to light your headlights. As Mad/Casper said they take a large voltage to light, but a small voltage to run. You have regular bulbs but a brighter colour.

if indeed you have an HID kit.. you got them for a steal at 15 a piece.. that would not even cover the tax on the ones I am looking at. And Silvertibs is right.. a HID kit is more than just a lamp.. it is the lamp, a heavy duty cable from the lamp, and a Ballest to step the voltage up for igniting the lamp...

So I know a little about High intensity Discharge.. it uses the same technology as some of the theatrical follow spots I use.. but those put out 2000watts of power..
