When i replaced the clips on my axles i gave them a nice little kick.. and that did the trick.. My axles are fine and have been pulled out way too many times to count.

I trust the rubber on my shoe over any hammer.. Like jon said all that is needed is some slight force. If it also goes in too easy, your clips might also be worn off.. so you might wanna replace them.

I have never been able to snap on an axle from under the car.. Except when my clips were worn off...

Somebody really did a number on that axle though. An axle should never need THAT much force. Im curious whether the clip came OFF the axle and is stuck in the differential. That would completely suck.

I would check the tranny side of the axle carefully...

To remove the axle from the transmission side, you can use a big screwdriver or small pry bar. Just make sure you do not damage the rubber seal around the opening. If you pry OUT only vs UP it will pop out like Butta. If you end up prying up and out, you'll know it, cuz it won't come out.

DO NOT PULL on the Centershaft (between the 2 CV joints). If you do, you'll POP the CV joints out. You can wiggle them back into place, but it's not worth the hassle, and you stress the CV boots. ONLY apply pulling force from the Tranny side end when removing there, and from the Brake side when removing that side.

When re-installing, same rules apply. Only apply force to the ENDS not to the center or far end.

Regarding your particular FUBAR'd axle. You'll simply have to do your best to remove the cotter pin and castle nut and see if it will come off. If not you'll need a nut splitter to cut the nut off.

Thanks guys.

I just need to find an axle now. I can get the axle seal and stuff easy.

You can use the Automatic axle's on a manual right?

If you guys remember this whole thing happened when he was taking a right hand turn and the axle popped out. The clip was GONE.

Replacing the axle is just a precaution because of the abuse that it was put through. If you can't find another, then take it to a shop and have them check it out. It might be fine to use. Just try not to damage the threads when taking the nut off.

Redz, just FYI.

When I had problems with my outer pass side outer CV joint and drive shaft, I bought new driveshaft (outer CV joint + shaft, without inner CV joint) from Elantra 1.8. And it didn't fit! Shaft has 23 teeth and my inner CV joint had 25 teeth. But don't forget I have KDM Tibby.

And if you have ABS - search that outter CV joint had ABS ring.

I'll try, but with the mushroom on the end, it's gonna get messed up.

Thats why I need to know for sure about the automatic axles.

right now, that axle is trash. Get a nut splitter and that will cut the castle nut right off.. after that, who cares how you remove the axle from the trans... give it a yank and rip it out of there.

Take the advice on how re-install it though. Have you considered a rebuilt axle from Hyundai? Just pop your old one out, put it in the box and return it for the core charge.. just do not let them see the threads on the end.

Yes, but according to some of the folks that have done the tranny swap, the axles still work fine. It's not much of a difference in length.

Hmm, autozone? I've never heard of these.

That'll be simple, it's not even in the tranny all the way.

I was thinking about that, wonder how much they are after core refund.
