I ran my '01 tib for about two years with a 1.8l ecu out of a 98 auto elantra and noticed no bad effects from it, there was definately a power increase in the upper power band, I would race people with the same mods I had yet after 2nd gear I would just pull away from them and I never thought that the ecu was why my car must have been faster, I didn't even think about it. When I went turbo I began to have problems with detonation and found the cause to be the 1.8 ecu cause after I swapped in a 2.0l ecu from a '00 tib manual the detonation went away and so did some power. I think the 1.8l ecu leans out the fuel mixture and advances the timing when installed into a 2.0l car so it would be a very good mod for a NA application. I will most likely be trying the 1.8l ecu again since I got rid of the unichip for the emanage and I can richen it up a little to eliminate the detanation problems I had before, I'll let you know how it works.

Im guessing this ecu swap is not good for nitrous. it is obvious that the 1.8 leans the fuel and advances timing....has anyone tryed nitrous with this swap on the 2.0.

wouldn't it be better to just get a safc? This way you could change it yourself if you did go turbo.

yeah, but the 1.8ecu mod is A LOT cheaper.

so has anyone been able to come up with a good idea for obtaining the ecu? i searched carpart, ebay, and on here, and there is really no place that tells you where you can get the ecu that we are looking for for cheap.

hey redz, what would you compare the gains (that you felt) to? same as a cai? bbtb? plugs/wires? other?
