bullfrog what if i was to rid the coal pellets & put in chunks of new coal that's used for grilling food?

 

Well guys, I pulled my evap canister again and dumped 99% of the charcoal out of it, took it to the gas pump, and it immediately filled up. I've filled up twice now and it works like a charm.

As for getting new charcoal, I know that anywhere with a good pet department will sell activated charcoal in tiny pellets in their fish section, so putting new charcoal in would be just that easy. I've let mine sit out and air out for a while now, I'll see about putting it all back in sometime soon.

from reading im thinking that the line is clogged someplace. If both solenoids click and your still having issues filling up then my guess would be that you have a block someplace. the front valve is just a dump to the engine, the back valve brings in fresh air to flush out the charcoal canister and re route the vapors of filling gas into the charcoal to be sucked out at speed.
If you are still having issues filling up im gonig to say it has something to do with the hoses connected to the vapor catch. if that part is blocked but the valves work then that would explain the issue.

 

Oh man after a while I am having the same problem again. I really hate the evap system and it is such a PIA to work on it, For the people that got ride of the charcoal , Did it your cell clear after that or did you continue to get a cell. I was also thinking would that be dangerous having all that gas in that little tank back there waiting to blow up like a little bomb, lol Im thinking of actually ordering the thing brand new but is a little pricey.

 

I never got a CEL in the first place, which is what made me think it was a problem outside the realm of my sensors or clogged lines. I haven't gotten any new CEL's since I removed the charcoal.

 

how did you remove the charcoal? in my rd2 I do not remember being able to take the canister apart it seem like it was a sealed plastic container.

 

You're making it way harder than it really is my man. I got a large empty coffee can, turned the canister upside down, and poured the charcoal out into the can. It reeked, I mean REEKED of gasoline. It took almost two days to air out my garage, that stuff must have been way saturated.

 

I am a little confused, so you are saying simply unloading the charcoal from the canister solved all of the problems (at least for the moment)?
I previously didn't have access to a compressor so I just replaced the PCV as in the first post's last ditch effort option. My CEL went away but the underlying problem remains, and has in fact gotten much worse over time. I was planing to take my tib to someone locally but they are all saying the tank is the cause without even looking at her. Which is both discouraging and infuriating. Fed up I have cleared Sunday to work on this problem but want to tackle it in full. Since rubber tubing is cheap, just for the purposes of overkill I might go with all of the above and then some. Lord knows the filter needs replacing as well so it just makes sense. What do you guys think?

 

My car was doing the same thing. I took out out the charcoal canister and noticed that the charcoal was able to come out and into the piping. So I dumped like half of it out and put it back on. What do you know it worked. I was able to find another canister out of a junk yard and I noticed that there is a foam filter on both the holes to keep the charcoal from coming out. The new canister works and I am finally able to fill my car normal.

 

so jmans you have currently zero charcoal in your canister & you have no cel or filling problems anymore?
