I just pulled the rad, it had a bunch of build up on the front, but nothing I think enough to make me overheat? But I ran the hose through it, and let it push anything in there right out. It flowed fine. You think it could still be the rad? I might go by Koyo today and pick up a new one from them.

I would track down that steam.. it could be coming from the overflow.. or the weep hole on the water pump

Possibly a stupid question, but did you, by chance, 'burp' the cooling system after you messed with the thermostat? An air pocket can and will do that to any car.

Just a really stupid question.

Yeah I squeezed the hoses like a porn star, no bubbles left. WHATS A WEEP HOLE? lol, it seems thats where the water, or coolant dump, right under the alternator, but I would think its just from the overflow.

Random came over and looked at it, and we kinda both think I've done what needed to be done. I'm just not sure if it is fixed? After the hose through the rad trik, I stopped off to get some 50/50 and some distilled water. I filled her up and let her sit all day. Then I needed a ride home from about 20 minutes away, and my wife had to come get me. I told her to chance it with the car. So she did, and no probs at all. ALTHOUGH, I did notice about 1/8 the water from the resevior was missing, which translates to maybe shotglass full of coolant. But even that should never go low when you are driving a working vehicle. My guess is that the engine will run fine again for a while, then go haywire on me, and put me out a few hours of work again. BAAAH. I think I have to sell the car, as is.

a weep hole is an early warning indicator that your water pump is about to go. It is like a MM in diameter hole drilled into the body of the water pump directly below the shaft. If water starts getting past the seals, it will "weep" out of this hole rather than follow the shaft.

well chris i meant for u to start the car with the radiator cap off because when a head gasket goes the first thing that goes is the water jackets. when your car compresses air or exhaust it will push it through your water jackets and back through your radiator. but let your car get to operating temp to really make sure because your thermostat will be closed untill operating temp (usually when fans kick in) if the gasket is blown it will push the water out of the radiator while its idleing when another car would spill over lil bit.

even though you ran the hose to get the crap out and check flow u still might have a cracked radiator. if it was steeming by the alternator the seems of the radiator might have blown (where core meets tanks)(the core is in the midel and tanks are on top and bottom by both radiator hoses going to and from engine) turn your a/c on while your car is running and wait n see if you see a drip or steam after operating temp. you want the a/c on because it puts a stress on the engine and makes it heat up to a higher temp.

the weep hole on the water pump is on the bottom of the water pump. you can see it with a small mirror or looking from under your car. it lets water out when the seals or o ring of the water pump fail leting u know that u need to replace it. if you do not replace it it will freeze up and rip your belt and make u over heat just like when u didnt have a belt on.

your gas tank prolly wont have a crack but the rubber hoses (there are 2) that go to your gas tank might be shot. there is the main line that goes to tank when u fill up and a overfill line that usually just returns vapors back to the gas station pump.the fiting hoses go from metal to rubber then back to metal so check the rubber hoses.

for your last post:

well great im perdy sure that prolly fixed your problem but just remember when u fill your car up with coolant your bound to have air in the engine thats takes awhile to get out so your coolant loss might be normal considering u just emptyed your cooling system. just keep filling it as needed for a week or a few days if it keeps sucking it then u prolly do have another problem. but if it doesnt then problem solved.
or take your radiator cap off while running and fill it as the bobbles come out either way .

oh and btw never open the radiator cap when radiator is hot. my advice above is for when you open the cap on a cool car and let it get to running temp.

Thanks so much guys, really. I'll pull the rad cap and let her get a bit hot, maybe 5 minutes or 15 minutes after its running at reg temp. I'll keep on the rad, and I'm sure the steaming has stopped. It was simply soaked and thus made tons of steam till all the little nooks and crannies storing water got hot enough to steam it away.

I'm just done with this damn car. Its killing me, but how can I sell a car to some dumb person and have it overheating on them the next day? Thats not cool.
