They always test your gas cap IIRC regardless of what state you're in.. I know they definitely do it here, they basically screw it into an airline and then pump air at it to test the seal.. good thing really as a leaky seal or incorrectly screwed on cap is a CEL for sure...

I have had no such problems with inspections.. When I took the Taurus down the CEL was on and it passed anyway..

When I took the Tib down the airbag light was on, the rear washers dont seem to work (no pump.. where is that thing btw as its not working? is it the same line as the front? because when I turn on the rear wipers nothing pumps) and the car was filthy (growing mould at the time) and it passed.. smile.gif

Mind you every time I get an inspection I get some of that injector/jet fuel stuff that guarantees you will pass or your money back.. just makes the gas burn more clean I would assume..

Not only that but we live butt end of nowhere (near salem county) so the folk down at the test station are all old and cool as hell smile.gif When I went to do my driving test there my wife said to the guy (who was about 70) "Oh he's awfully worried hes not going to pass and he's waited so long for this because of all the immigration mess ups" and the dude responded with "dont worry, hes going to pass"

How cool is that? lmao.gif

We have them in Ontario.....I'm too low on the front to get on the Dyno, so they ran a "2-speed" idle test...Passed with flying colours...lol....

My plan for November (need the emissions done every other year) if it fails because of the exhaust work I'm having done. I have a friend with bone stock RD2....just run their car, enter my VIN in the computer....bam....I passed.....lol

Texas rocks. No testing at all. Just inspections to basically make sure your horn and lights work.

I can even buy a sticker for you with no questions asked.

They need to hurry up and have inspections mandatory in every state, and be a bit more strict on commercial vehicles and vehicles from before OBD.

^^ I agree with that.

I dont know how many times I've watched a public bus, or a dump truck, or any other commercial vehicle pull away from a red light and see it pump a huge amount of crap into the sky. Yet the government is so strict on the fact that I have a slightly larger exhaust pipe.....

Montana has no emissions laws either. And if you drive with montana tags people will continuously ask you "you guys can drive as fast as you want huh?" They used to have no speed limits as well. There are no noise laws so you can straight pipe it, and no smoke laws except safety.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (tibbytib @ Aug 26 2006, 12:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>^^ my point exactly!! They said they cant run an emission check on the car because of how the system checks the emissions. The test devise is huge, its like a dyno. You pull you car up on this thing and your wheels are suppose to move during the test, apparently mimicking a load and testing emissions under load. They said the bumpers may damage the rims, so unless I find other rims and tires, they wont do the inspection due to liability.

I may seriously consider Ericy321's idea and get me a PO box outside the county.</div>

get me there ## and i will call them from here.. like what can they do to me

hell moding you car in any way here is illigal as hell

I know where I live in New York all they do is a visual look over then they plug in a computer to the OBDII plug. If you car has any check engine light it fails regardless, you get 7 days to fix it. The thing that sucks is that if its anything. For instance my friend have a 99 jetta. Since he took out his stock radio he has a check engine light and fails inspection/emmisions because he has a check engine light. Something about the stock radio being able to acces the computer.

Also the stickers that you get are state issued and numbered. Once you get your inspection and pass or fail the state knows what car has what stickers and what cars have temp stickers because they failed.
