So I went down to get an emissions test today, and they wouldn't test my car because I have "low profile tires". What a joke. Theres 10's of thousands of cars that have just as low or lower profile tires, aftermarket AND stock, that are required by law to get these tests done. I dont see how the state can require the test and allowed a system of testing that discriminates amongst a part of the driving community. I asked the manager if they had other facilities or other companies that test emmisions that would be able to test my car. He said they (his company) was the only company licensed in the state of Colorado to do emissions testing and that all 14 of his locations would regect my car.

AAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHH~!!!!!!!!

Then, they sent me to Discount tire to "rent" wheels and tires to do the test. They just laughed!! They told me they dont rent rims or tires for emissions testing and didn't know anyone in Denver that did.

Now I was really pissed!

So I called and chewed out the manager for Air Care Colorado. It didn't solve anything, but definately made me feel better!

So, I guess I have to try to find some rims or two donuts to go down and get the test done. What a pain in the ass.

thats rediculous. i remember when i was trying to get my camaro to pass it failed a couple times and when i took it back they wouldnt test it because they said that the ac was taken off. because it wasnt stock they couldnt test it. so stupid the things those places do. they should run it through regardless and if it passes it passes. thats why i register my cars in a different county now that doesnt need emissions testing. find a county near you and take out a p.o. box to register your cars.

I think NJ is right up there with pain in the a-s emissions testing.

I remember when I bought my first car, the Nissan, it didnt pass because of a gas cap. Wtf? In NJ they test everything, lights, brakes, wipers, horn, suspension etc.

Then my tib didnt pass as well because of an exhaust leak. Ugh.

Luckily, Im soon to be registered in Florida where I wont have to deal with that anymore.

Lol that sucks tom

A girl at my work needed a test done and took it to some independent shop and even though the car passed for 2 years he wouldn't give her the paperwork cuz the car "shifted into gear funny" he said he could fix it for about 400 she refused to pay him unless he gave her the inspection paper and after arguing with him for like a hour he gave up and let her pay and leave

Look up the laws yourself Tom, I'm calling BS on this one. There is no correlation, at all, between the profile of your tires, and your exhaust system.

Emissions in ABQ = OBDII check, then gas cap check.

That's it.

^^ my point exactly!! They said they cant run an emission check on the car because of how the system checks the emissions. The test devise is huge, its like a dyno. You pull you car up on this thing and your wheels are suppose to move during the test, apparently mimicking a load and testing emissions under load. They said the bumpers may damage the rims, so unless I find other rims and tires, they wont do the inspection due to liability.

I may seriously consider Ericy321's idea and get me a PO box outside the county.
