Im sure the spectra rotors work, im just clarifying something that wasnt mentioned in this thread.

I was thinking about this at work..... By using the Spectra rotor you will have uneven brake pad wear due to having about 1" less that the XG rotor. The only benefit that I can see out of the whole XG swap (if you go with the Spectra rotors) is the twin piston.

ME personally if I end up doing this, I will go with the re-drilled XG rotors. I have 2 brand new rear hub that I can use as a template for the 4 bolt pattern.

from what i can tell, the calipers are different from 02-03/03 to 03/03-05..

looks like the XG used a 'kia sized' (10.83") rotor until 03/12/03, then went to the bigger rotor after that (11.93")

so there would really be TWO different calipers, the ones for the ~11" rotors and the ones for the ~12" rotors.

from the looks of it.

the 12" ones look to be a different part number than the 58180-39A30.

anyone able to shed any light on this?

Nope, the spectra rotors are bigger than the OEM rotors. I took pics of them side by side and the like, and the new ones are much bigger.

I'll get the pics and DIY up here one of these days.

I used the 03 XG calipers on mine with Spectra rotors. They work perfect and are matched for size. Nate, sounds like if you want the extra inch you need to go redrilled.

the spectra rotors ARE bigger.. 10.83" compared to stock 10.11"

but there are TWO different XG calipers. one is for the newer XG with ~12" rotors and ones for the older XG with the ~11" rotors.

if you check out rockauto and some similar suppliers, the date that it was changed looks like March 12, 2003. Is there anyone that has 04-05 Calipers that anyone knows of?

because if someone mistakenly got the newer Calipers with the spectra rotors, wouldn't work very well together.

It would be something worth mentioning in the DIY that there would in fact be 2 different ways to go so people didn't get mixed up parts (ie. 12" rotor with 11" caliper and vice versa).

reason for the concern, i saw in the first post, and some other posts, that you could use a 02-05 XG caliper, but they are different. They will bolt up in the same spot, but one is made for a bigger rotor.

Ya I made sure to get the early calipers with mine and I think Jeremys is right also. But that should definitely be added.

yeah, thats the only reason i posted this, at least do the actual DIY is clear and people don't order 03+ calipers if they are wanting to do a 11" BBK since some of the threads say you can use ANY 02-05 front caliper from XG350.

the 12" system also won't work with stock wheels and you will NEED to re-drill.

the 12" system has a greater radius on the rotor of .55" which would push the edge of the caliper out at least that much more, making the stock 15"s impossible to work with it.

I test fit my stock 15s on my setup and they fit. Barely but they do. Which is good for people wanting to run stock wheels and me who is going to put some drag tires on the stock rims.

Oh man! I was just about to start doing the xg350 upgrade today, and thought to check this thread for any last minute info I might've missed. The good: I'm glad I know about this before I started, the bad: I already bought those calipers. They were for XG350 (manufacture date after 2/12/03), and rotors were for the 2005 Spectra. Which, according to SOCKS, shouldn't work since it's an ~11" rotor and caliper meant for a 12" rotor (wrong combo) owned.gif

For reference, here are the part numbers for the 2003 XG350 calipers:

581980 39a00 (used on XG350 vehicles from 2001 - Feb 2003)
581980 39a30 (used on XG350 vehicles from Mar 2003 - July 2005)

My options:

1. return my spectra rotors and get the 12" XG350 rotors:
pros: better performance and looks. No shipping costs since I bought the rotors locally.
cons: can't use my 15" wheels

2. return my XG350 calipers and get the pre Feb 2003 (p/n 39a00) calipers:
pros: I can use my 15" wheels
cons: not as good performance/looks as option 1. Will have to pay shipping for returns.

Opinions?

----------------------

(Edit):

I'M IN LUCK!! veryhappy.gif veryhappy.gif I ordered those calipers from rockauto, from a supplier A1Cardone. When I ordered them, they were listed as 2003 XG350 calipers, without mention of pre/post Feb2003. I thought I had ordered post-Feb. It turns out that A1-Cardone lists their products by the year that it was first released. So.... XG350 calipers, listed at Rockauto under A1Cardone from 2002 - 2003 are the (39a00) - Cardone's p/n for those is 19B2710, and 19B2711 (ie. left and right calipers). If you wanted the other calipers meant for the 12" xg350 rotors (p/n 39a30), which were on all XG350 vehicles after Feb 2003 until 2005, then those are listed by A1Cardone as 2004 and 2005 calipers. wooooohoooo!! laugh.gif

Also, fyi, the 39a00 calipers (meant for the Spectra 11" rotors), were also used on the following vehicles:

XG300 - 2001
Santa Fe - 2001 - 2006

So you could save some money if the calipers are listed with different price for any of those vehicles vs the xg350 (it's the same caliper).

I really wanna see how the 12" setup looks and goes as far as install. I know I could get those rotors all day machined to fit our 4 lug hubs.
