Try winding your LS1 to 10K on a daily basis...

Power to weight, I like a wankel. I like the sound, I like the mechanisim, I like the fact that there is no valvetrain to grenade.

Raw "you're going to eat rubber for breakfast", a V8 will spank it, but each has it's place.

For one thing, I can put a 13B and a FWD trans into a tube frame gocart that's under 50" wide.

So, 2500hp and 500 pounds is a bad power to weight ratio?

Ignoring race engines, the LS9 longblock weighs 530lbs and makes 638hp and 604lb-ft of torque in the ZR-1 Corvette. 1.2hp/lb, 1.14lb-ft/lb in stock form. That's a good power to weight ratio, one that will be tough to equal in a stock rotary. Consider the transmission and accessories (not much difference in total weight whether on the LS engine or rotary) and the difference becomes more apparent.

Again, if you want to compare boost to boost, the field is even. There's plenty of 4 digit rotaries out there, there's plenty of battle tested V8s used in super cars. (EG: Ultima, early koeiniegsgsgegdhgigegegeg, older Apollos, and just about every tunrkey kit car ever made.) All motor arguments become moot as soon as the dyno queens come out. I could build a twin charged alpha that makes pretty numbers too and weighs nothing. That wasn't the point. Non blower, whether you want to admit it or not, a 13b is lighter (even if by an arguably small margin) and capable of numbers more than adequate for most any racing scenario.
