Why do they use 1.8 pistons and rods in 2.0 engine?

I think this way they lower compression ratio.

Probably it would be the cheapest way to lower CR (not using a decompresion plate), cause OEM pistons+rods don't cost that much.

The pricetag is what kills me for it. I built a COMPLETE turbo kit with all the goodies I can think of for 2,500 dollars. And the only thing that is used is the injectors and intercooler.

I know it's too expensive.

I'm just curious about that way of lowering compression ratio - 1.8 rods + 1.8 pistons
What CR will be? Is it good way to lower it?

300WHP for their kit?

Can they show an example of a Hyundai tiburon that they built with their kit.
And appropriate Dyno Readings and verification.

I've spent and upgraded twice as many parts as they have listed
Here are my performance figures
13 psi 220hp
16psi Testing next week once 720cc injectors have been installed
20psi Pushing it to the max with standard pistons and rods and garrett gt3076r turbo.

Maybe once i've installed my 500hp garrett gt3076r turbo.
I should be telling everyone that my car does 500whp!

Back on topic...

I would have to say no. Using shorter rods is not the right way to lower compression. You still want the piston to hit TDC at the top of the block. Doing what their suggesting will have the piston about 2-3mm lower than the top of the block at TDC. This screws up the quelch(sp) area.

Because they made a mistake and have not actually installed on a real car.
Its a big job replacing the pistons and rods, huge cost for the mechanical labour.

mang, it's not that much in Ukraine. I can rebuilt the whole engine for $300 (labour+work+machining) + parts.

I changed piston rings for $150 (work)

How bad is it to lower CR this way?

BTW, I found on their forum, that CR should be 8:1 and that setup (pistons+rods) is good up to 450 whp

It would be a LOT better to do it the right way and get the 2.0 8:1 compression pistons.

1.8 rods and 1.8 pistons will be 3 times cheaper

I'm going to run only no more than 220-250 whp.

BTW with OEM parts you can go 82.25 mm bore (not 82.50 mm)

the pistons and rods i've ordered from www.rpw.com.au
about 6-8 weeks to fabricate for my 1997 hyundai tiburon 1.8 litre engine.

forged 82.00mm
eagle rods
composite metal/graphite 2.00mm gasket
cost of these parts alone is $1500 US plus labour.
This would allow me to boost the car from 20psi to 30psi.
