If you take it easy on your car, I'm sure it would last until you can afford high comp pistons down the road. Test the compression on your motor now and see what shape its in.

You definitely want to lower your comression. If you want a reliable setup on stock compression you're pretty much capped at ~175whp. People have gone above, but it won't last. Decompression gaskets are great despite the negative stigma that surrounds them on RD tibs. The reason for this is because for the most part all the decomp gaskets people have used in the states are the ones from Alpine. The decomp gasket from alpine is basically a laser cut sheet of metal. The high quality ones (like the one I'm using) are stamped in a mold, have a specially finished surface and seal correctly are just as realiable as an oem gasket. I had the alpine kit before my current kit and the head gasket leaked oil like crazy. My shop installed a new one and I don't lose a drop anymore. Decomps are GREAT and good for 450+whp. You of course run into other bottlenecks before you reach 450whp like pistons/rods.

As for the fuel management, you'd be a perfect candidate for the ecu swap kit. It's a full turbo ecu. Tibmin is testing it out on his RD and should have results in about a week. I've had it in my car for over 1/2 a year and it hasn't given me any issues. 300whp daily and I race on it every weekend HARD. Plus, it retains cruise smile.gif

Piggyback's are more like a bandaid fix. You can't modify the ecu data to make it a true turbo solution using a stock NA ecu. I actually dyno tuned my unichip for my alpine kit and even though I did that, when I brought it to Korea, one of my piston's rings were fried. There's a lot of stuff that can go wrong in your engine and you may not even notice it - I had no idea that my rings were fried.

With a power goal of ~250whp the GT28 turbo fits the compressor map the best - I just did the calculations a couple weeks ago in fact.

the things about the ecu swap kit that turn me off.

1. price
2. inability to adjust for changes made
3. needing to swap out things for emissions testing. my setup will not need anything special done to it in order to pass emissions.

Airborne, which decomp plate/gasket are you using? I've seen a couple different ones while searching. Thanks! fing02.gif
