Airbone, do you WOT at 3rd and 5th gears?

3rd, of course. I drag race a couple times a month over here. I really haven't been on the highway much to WOT 5th (most all the highways here are tollways and I haven't had the need to travel too far lately). I'll let you know when I get a chance.

hmm, so it's 3rd gear that we should also afraid of?

how much can 3rd gear and 5th gear handle?

I want to run up to 12 psi of boost, should I worry much about my tranny?
(edit)

What tranny is our 5 spd? is it MFA60?

I found this site:

http://www.aichikikai.co.jp/english/index.html

it says that MFA60 was installed on Hyundai Tiburon.
it also says that max input torque is 270-320 Nm.

This tranny is installed also on:

NISSAN X-Trail, Altima, Sentra
MAZDA 6, Tribute
FORD Escape, Maverick
Can we put a tranny from Lancer Evo 6? It supports up to 400 Nm of torque.

this means we also use the gearing from these trannys mmmuuuhhhhhh i am getting some ideals and also if now this is a big if ....the evo one works... that means more power for me alot more... no more half pedaling it

Gary,

Believe me, I always thought 5th was the weakest gear (and it may be) before I came over to Korea, but I've talked to the actual President of VHR clutch systems and over in Korea 3rd gear is the biggest culprit. Perhaps it's because there aren't very many opportunities here in Korea to fully boost 5th gear. Anyways, there are MANY people here in Korea running 300+whp without any transmission issues. Myself included.

I plan on running 300-350 WHP daily. Should I be concerned with 3rd and 5th gear? I drive the car EXTREMLY hard. Drag racing on the weekends, with slicks and lots of power shifting.

Alright, here's the real deal. People over here shred 3rd only while they're shifting into it. Once you're in 3rd you can lay the power down without any problems. So... if you want your trans to live, you might want to consider taking the 2nd to 3rd gear shift a little easier. 5th gear is fine with 300whp as well. Once you start the journey towards 400+whp you'll need to change out your gears to stronger ones. They have gears for our trans in Korea that will withstand up to 1500whp - no idea on costs.

1st and 2nd gear are extremely strong and shouldn't give you any trouble.

I'm currently putting down 300whp, maybe a little more as a daily driver. I drag on the weekends, but only with street tires for now. In the spring, I may be doing some competition drag racing and use drag radials.

Gary, I'm interested in your setup specs for your 1/4 mile of 13.2 PM if you can

It may be weak, but you'll lose 3rd before you lose 5th.

I think that MFA60 is used on GK.

Do you know are RD and GK trannies the same?

Maybe we can use some gears from MFA80?

Airbone, maybe there are some gears that holds less than 1500 whp, let's say 400-500 whp? they should be cheaper.
