Frozen's Build Thread
Well, it's finally time. Going to start it for the first time tomorrow. It's not quite complete. I'm running the stock ECU and all. no piping from the IC to the intake, just a filter on the TB. IAC won't be hooked up, just going to leave the power off of it, and adjust the TB to set the idle. No MAF or anything (I would use it if I could find it, but it seems to be lost). This is basically just a test run, to see if the engine runs... And to see if my rad will hold some pressure or if I'm getting a new one (damaged it pretty good when I pulled the engine without removing it owned.gif).
After this, the ECU and all the unneccessary crap comes out, and the MS goes in. I'm doing the test because inevitably the MS will not start the car, and I'll be wondering whether it's ECU related or engine related, so I may as well figure it all out now, since I don't have the MS yet (and I'm horny to see it run).
Today I filled the tranny with some Royal Purple, added the engine oil, removed the timing belt cover and triple checked the engine spins freely. I also ran the fuel pump to empty the fuel from the car... It's about a year old so I'll be picking up some new stuff tomorrow, run it through the lines for a few seconds before I hook it up to the fuel rail.
I found this pre-startup checklist. http://www.disgruntledgoat.com/content/veh...rtChecklist.php Some of it doesn't apply, but I'm going to go through this list before I turn the key tomorrow. Is there anything else anyone can suggest/recommend before I do the deed? For the pre-start prime, I'm going to disconnect the ignition coil pack, and the fuel injector plugs. 15 seconds should be long enough to get oil into the head/turbo oil feed? (feeding from the head). I'll probably do it for 15 seconds, and then another for 10 seconds again within 2 or 3 minutes of starting it for real.
Wish me luck hail.gif

Car turned over just fine, but besides the starter motor, there were no signs of life. No sputtering, no nothing.
I pulled one of the plugs and i couldn't smell gas, so I'm assuming the ECU is not running the fuel pump, and probably no spark either. Leads me to believe it's the CKPS or CPS. A quick check on webtech shows that the tachometer is part of the CPS circuit.
My suspicions are;
- My gauge cluster is out. I doubt the tach is that important, but I'll try it putting the cluster back in.
- It's very possible that I mixed up the connectors between the IAC, CPS, and knock sensor. Going to print off the diagram showing connector locations and verify everything is correct.
The sensors are out of my original engine so everything should be fine.
Quick question; when your car is in the Run position, does the IAC make any noise? Mine does, maybe it's the wrong connector? It's just like a hum.

In the run position, yes, the IAC makes noise. Take out your backseat and you can see if your fuel pump hums in the on position as well.
I'd also check to see if its sparking. You seem to have the ri ght idea to what your problems might be.
I thought it should be running, but it's not. So then it must be one of these sensors then, right? I did a quick check, wasn't really thorough, but I don't think I had spark either. I used the manual fuel pump plug to pump the gas out yesterday. I'll play with it more tomorrow.
I would have all clusters and stuff installed first,check grounds,recheck all fluids,then hopefully you'll be burping the coolant system next time you turn the key fing02.gif
But it will at least sputter. Also, our cars dont run the fuel pump with the key on from what I remember. It needs the crank signal to run the pump. You still on stock ECU right now?
