Beta 1 2.4L Engine head swap
So I'm thinking this may be a fun idea that just started to be thrown around. Plus we kind of hijacked a different thread and thought a thread dedicated to it should be started. So I'm thinking of doing it once the elantra is done. So who is with me? smile.gif
I found a head for $101.. not too bad
Before I buy it though I want to take my spare headgasket off of the beta block that is on an engine stand and compare it to the gasket of a 2.4l engine. If it works out Im thinking you'll need the 2.4l IM and TB. But before I dive into this I have to make sure the elantra is running reliable before I start hacking at the tiburon. Or maybe I'll just build up the block with 11k on it and swap it back into the Tib. and throw some high comp pistons on it and another NX kit

I've been reading lots about swapping the 1.8 cams and such and that makes sense. If you swap the heads from a 2.4 does that give you more displacement?? I'm confuzzled.

Got a problem with our theory though mang.
I looked at a 2.4L today at the dealership, they don't look the same at ALL.
Also, the 2.4L is a CVVT, from what I could find out, and it's the "Short" head, it doesn't have that big part on the right that sticks out on the Beta 1, it's much shorter.
Again, I could be wrong, but I would first start by taking the engine cover off your dad's when he's not looking and see if it's even similar.

if that would why not do the 2.4L block with 1.8L head and cams? wouldn't it be able to go both ways? and wouldn't you want the 2.4L displacement rather than 2.0L?
but yeah then throw in some 13.1 pistons and go at it....

the mounts on the block may be different and then you'd have to do a different tranny, different ECU.. itll be pretty much a PITA and cheaper to just boost it. where as if you just do a head swap then its just like a bolt on mod. see what im sayzzin?
i would hate to be the one to figure out the timing on that biatch...
2.0L timing vs 2.4L timing..
How many valves will we fvck up trying to figure that out..
Also..
Lets hope the cam pulley matches up with the crank pulley (timing belt)
Also.. will the stock timing belt be long/short enough?
Also..
Even if the head gaskets match up.. will the oil/ coolant passages be the same?
Or will we have oil having sex with coolant?
Also..
Will that head need higher oil pressure, like the beta II head?
betaI and Beta II both have oil restrictors.. but in different places...
OH well
Just pissing on the parade, but hoping im wrong.
BETA heads suck donkey ballz.. hopefully something positive comes out of this.
