QUOTE (Dweet)
what year 2.4l did you look at? only the newer hyundai engines have the CVVT. Try looking at 2001's and older.

I thought the 2.4L was new? The one I looked at was brand new at the dealer so I couldn't even see under the engine cover. I'd say take that engine cover off really quick and take a look. What year is your dad's?

I'd really like to see this.

Nope, not according to common sence, or KBB.com

Dweet, maybe you should start even simpler/cheaper. Get a gasket for the 2.4 and see how it matches.

it might be possible...the honda crowd does it all the time... 2.0 heads on a 1.8(called a frankenstein)... 2.0-2.4 is kinda a big jump though.... i did something SIMILAR to my old crx i had a 91 honda crx si and i did what they call a MINIme swap to it. It involved removing the stock 1.6l sohc non vtec head and replacing it with a 97 1.6 sohc vtec head. It required new headgasket(thicker to lower the compression since it jumped it up to almost 13:1 if i remember right...been a while) new timing belt from the same year engine as the vtec head, an rpm activated switch to activate the vtec, and a couple other things. This swap actually gives you more power than swapping the entire vtec engine. raised it from the whole whoppin 108 it was before to 137... the 97 honda vtec motors only had 127(if i remember right)

Now the only problem i could see is that 2.4 compared to 2.0 is HUGE... also the studs might not line up... also is the 2.4 also dohc? it's NOT gonna work if it's a sohc like alot of older engines are.

now i was pondering doing a mini me swap to a beta from a beta 2... i know the beta 2 has less hp than the beta 1 but from what i understand the blocks of the beta 1's are designed better than the beta 2's. They should bolt up (practically the same engine) All you would have to do is get an rpm activated switch(30bucks from summit) to activate the variable timing or what ever it is on the new beta's.... it might be more worthwile and cheaper and easier to do this than swap the 2.4 head.

just some 2 cents as an old honda gear head

oh yeah the honda crowd also swaps dohc 1.8l heads onto dohc 1.6l blocks
called a minifrankenstein

heres a link to how to do a mini me swap to a crx... alot of the things might be able to be applied to hyundais..

Sorry its an 02.. the 0 key is right next to the 9 key and my gf was probably naggin me for being on the computer while she is home and i wasnt paying 100% attention to what i was typing.

2.0 to 2.4 is doing all the time in the DSM work between the 4g63 and the 4g64.

Default Re: What do ya think

ummm guys

i already did the beta I to beta II swap

I have had a beta I with beta II head
Beta I with beta II pistons

My current engine is another hybrid.. but at this point, i dont remember what exactly came from what year..

I can write up an article on the various differences between both betas. I think i did this before... but i remember most of it.

Ill try and write up another post later tonight.

I think im the only on here to blow up both a beta I and beta II engine
