80% of sound is from the muffler. You get a good one, it'll sound great. You get a crappy one, it'll sound crappy.

So when going turbo and having to worry about performance more than you would n/a, what would be a good muffler to use. Iv read that magnaflows sound good on our cars and that they are a pretty free-flowing muffler as well. But how can I be sure im gonna get a reall good (non-ricey) sound without trial and error? Like what makes the Apexi N1s and MBRP's sound sooo nice? Could I achieve that sound with just getting a good N1 muffler?

And i PMed Tim about exhaust and some parts, but havent heard anything from him yet. Wink Wink.

Anything straight-through is most likely going to sound horrible. Best bet would be a small muffler, perforated core. You could even get a chambered one if you wanted, like the stock one.

Magnaflow is usually a great choice muffler wise. Flowmaster is semi-decent.

Ok, so I have a guy that is going to do my exhuast for me. I told him id supply cat and muffler. I also have most of the turbo parts now and should have the rest in a week or 2. Anyway, i ordered a carsound hi flow cat and now i need to find the right muffler. I think id like to get the magnaflow 5x8oval off-centered muffler.

Now my question is, what length should i get. I checked it out under the car and there isnt much room after the axle. So should i get a smaller length muffler or have the guy run the pipe a different place than stock?

You could go under the axle if you wanted like with the Apexi setup.. thats the way my custom is. Measure the stock one, that is just about as big as you can go if the exhaust goes over the axle.

Im thinkin a longer oval muffler will give a deeper (near stock) sound, so id like to get it a lil bigger. Will going under the axil be a lil too risky with bumps and pot-holes?

You would bottom out on another part of the body before you bottomed out on the piping... it would be near impossible to damage the piping.

And lastly. Would you guys say to go with the oval or round desig? Im looking for a good balance between sound and performance.
