Lol

Ok, Debbie Downer. Seriously, $500?

I could modify my stock oil pan with $30 in material. All it takes is some sheet metal and hacking off the factory sump. Its been done before. I think Random or Jaws did it.

okay then welding willie, how much did the welding setup cost? If you don't have that, include it in the cost of your $30 pan, plus the cost of a couple of $70+ pans because a novice welder will be blowing holes instead of laying beads in the sheet steel pan . . .

Reinstall pan

Option 1: Buy MIG for $350 + $30 in sheet metal. I'm not an experienced welder. I've owned mine for a couple years and it took me all of 10 minutes of welding on a piece of scrap to figure it out.

Are you going to use the lack of welder excuse in every case you present? This isn't the first time you've used this excuse and added the cost of a welder to a project. So, if you bought a welder and had practice in the last project you argued, doesn't this mean that THIS project still only costs $30? It's a one time purchase just like your wrench, jack, rachet.....

Option 2: Pay a sheet metal shop to build you a box to your specs with the top cut out, then have someone weld it to the bottom of the factory pan. This is probably the cheapest option since a sheet metal shop builds boxes all day long.

Option 3: See Faith's post. Have a machine shop do all the work.

Did you pay $500 for it?

Oh boy, +1 to turbosocks for making me LOL

If you don't have a welder you don't have it for the first project. It is ALWAYS a consideration until you get a welder.

Option 2 sounds like the best bet.

$500 was pulled out of my *** for the sake of discussion, and it seems to have worked . . .

Carl, I think we've presented you quite a few options in this thread, none of which I would consider worth the effort - but then, I am not racing my car on the weekends with oil starvation issues.

So is a wrench. What's your point?

A $350 welder is not an expensive tool and has become one of the most used items in my garage. I no longer have to pay some illegal immigrant to do a shitty job. For the cost of having an exhaust shop weld your exhaust, you could have bought a welder and done it yourself.

Obviously it was pulled out of your ass since your estimate was 10x's it's actual cost.

For the sake of discussion, leave the estimating to the people who have done the work. All you're doing is discouraging people from doing these types of mods by throwing out rediculous "estimates" all the time.

Just like your $800 intake manifold.
