my wife has a pile of junk chevy calls a 99 z24. It stock was ever so slightly quicker than my tib when it had just headers and intake. Just wait till he has about 90-95k on it then you'll be much faster!! (thats when the motor usually blows.)

Anyways the tib is far superior in handling and is a way better car. The drag race will be very close however. Unless one of you is auto then the other one will win. my tib and my wifes z24 are 5 speed.

Being in Pittsburgh, if you need any help I would be more then happy to assist. We go to Quaker all the time. I've only ran a 12.5 on street tires there in my RD, but track prep is much nicer then PRP. I would do the 1.8L camshaft and ECU, unless you would like to buy some nice cams. smile.gif

Since you'll both be slow, the person with practice will definitely probably win. I ran 14.9 with I/H/E/BBTB/Air-Ram.

Nitrous is cheap and effective. I'd probably do the cam/ecu/tb... dunno how much pulleys will effect the top end.

Wow 14.9 in a n/a tib
any nitrous?
was it a 2.5" exhaust?

Ok i can get a ported intake for 130 shipped or air ram for 550-600.
what are the approximate gain diffrences?
are the gains worth the extra 450.

Ok so from what i got from you guys and looking at time slips the takeoff is just as important as the mods. So i was thinking the kfx engine damper redz said it helped with torque steer and wheel hop. That along with my stock front tires at lower pressure (for grip). would allow me to launch at a higher rpm which would lower my 0-60 and ultamently my 1/4 time Right?? Do you have to have a strut bar fot the damper--Should i get a front stut bar along with the engine damper?

Weight reduction is key

Id port out the IM and gasket match the ports. Aquire a BBTB from Dennist (Atiler HP) Atleast an underdrive crank pulley, I/H/E. I'd even go as far as taking your AC belt off before you go lol.

I ran a 15.02 last summer with Airram-Aem intake-65mm BTBB-Crank/Water Pump and PS light pullies- equal length header, full 2.25 exhaust. Also had drag radials on the front and a decent launch. Plus all the weight reduction listed in this thread, and a 1/8 tank of gas.

You should beat him with a good launch and solid shifts. fing02.gif

NOW GET TO IT!

just go to track and race...to be honest who cares its a freaking cavailer...

dont mod your car just to beat one person that has a cavailer...do it for yourself...

do this list in this order

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>1)megan header
2) custom catback
3) megan shifter
4) KJB base and shifter bushings
5) pulley set
6) TB porting
7) B&G springs
8) ACT street clutch kit
9) chromoly flywheel
10) DIY/free IM porting</div>

you will love it at track and on the street fing02.gif

Lol im not just moding my car just to beat a cavalier. I love driving my tib and i love working on it. It just pisses me off when he trash talks about it. and i figure beatin his ass at the track will shut him up. Im just gonna bust my ass and come up with the money and time to get my car where i want it to be. Thanks for all the advice it really helped me realize what i got to do. My launches are the most important thing for me to get down. Its a little harder than i thought it would be to get a good launch. I guess ill just keep practicing.

^^ even when you do beat him, the way he sounds and the amount i know about cavalier owners, there's going to be a wanted rematch. He will say something about how "but you had more mods that I did" or "i didn't have a good enough launch, that's why you won" and no matter how many times you beat him, and even if you ran a 9.0 he would still probably say the same, however, good luck stomping the Sh*t out of the good ole queervaliers smile.gif
