Faith, Chris, HKC, well said guys.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (hamhead)</div><div class='quotemain'>I'll admit it, I race all the time, especially when there is money involved. But we always take extra precaution to find 3 lane stretches of road, empty, with no houses. Put lookouts on both ends, etc.</div>

Extra precautions. What a dumbass. This further proves why I hound you for most of your stupid comments on this site. You are what, 17? Feel like you'll live forever? Wait till you have a few friends die from stupid shit like that. What about the kids in the car? What about the 16 year old driving his parents sedan that wants to race you and he goes over a rise and can't control the car when it comes down?

If I was on your case before, it's nothing compared to now, moron.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (OdessitPashka)</div><div class='quotemain'>Street racing is stupid and can be dangerous, but we all do it.</div>

No we don't. And this site certanly doesn't advocate it. The most I do is see who can get to the speed limit fastest. It's legal, and doesn't hurt anyone.

A REAL MAN doesn't street race. Kids do it. And you KIDS that do it give us a bad name, weather or not you hurt anyone or do it on a abandoned stretch of road. It's because of idiots like you, that our hobby gets a bad name, and will be even more strictly policed in the future.

I should start a User Title for known street racers.

Actually redz, if you "race" off the traffic light to the speed limit it's illegal and you will be charged with street racing violation. It's also illegal to rev your engine at anyone because it's considered a motivation for racing which later on will be penalized by a cop...

Nope.

It's called exhibition of speed, and yes, you can get a ticket for it, but that involves revving your engine at someone else and spinning your tires.

I know the law here mang.

You can get up to speed as fast as you want here, just don't go over it, don't spin your tires, and don't rev your engine at someone.

Harsh words, but they need to be said. The days of hitting up a backroad and racing all night is gone.

Look at drinking and driving. Hell, my parents lived in a small town in the middle of the prairies, they could drink their faces off and drive home. At that point in time they could prolly drink while they drove, it was socially acceptable, and it wasn't illegal.

Problem is tracks are few and far between, and kids will be kids. I did it, I won't lie, I've done it on a pretty busy road. I look back on it now and I'm glad I didn't lose control and hurt somebody.

I think this site does a good job to make street racing socially unacceptable. I honestly feel that is the first major step in getting this under control.

Well, not everyone spins the tires when they race, at least I don't. I just know of people who got pulled over for "racing" to the speed limit and had to go through a lot of trouble and money.

Around here you can be charged with Street Racing even if you NEVER break the speed limit. REDZ little trick of seeing who can get to the speed limit fastest will land you in jail and your car impounded around here.

As for that.. I have only ONCE raced on the street.. and that was 17 years ago when I had my hopped up Vdub and I got tired of hearing from some kid in school how his 911 was faster (it wasn't). Things have changed A LOT around here since then. My favorite roads that I used to enjoy driving on (even if at the speed limit) are no longer back woods roads, but in the middle of the three million housing developments they have built in the last five years.

Too many people, too much to lose, nothing to gain... what is the point?

If I ever feel the urge to race.. Englishtown Raceway and the one near Deptford (I forget the name now) are within easy driving for me.

Redz, I don't race over hills in the first place, and the only one I'm endangering is myself, same for other people. If I want to take that risk, thats my decision, along with everyone else there. Its really not any different than you do, you go from 0-60 from a stop to the speed limit, I go from 10-90ish on an empty stretch of highway in the daytime. Its not like I go pushing my cars to redline in final gear when I race. Its usually over by the time I hit the beginning of 4th in my imports. If you wanna keep an eye on me, thats fine. I never do anything wrong most of the time. tongue.gif

OP, your laws must be different than mine and Redz. Here, you can go as fast as you want to the speed limit, as long as you don't spin your tires. In some places, I believe, there is an "excessive acceleration" ticket for going too fast.

Pretty sure that they have some kind of law. Cops aren't too bad here, but if you get to some prick, you are done! I've seen a cop write half of the violations that he had on his book to this guy. He checked every light on his car, height oh his ride, etc.... It can get crazy here!

I actually asked a VA State Trooper when he came to my Business Law class (Ham = wants to be a lawyer tongue.gif). He said you could go as fast as you wanted to the speed limit when I layed out the scenario for him. laugh.gif You need to move to VA. tongue.gif
