For those of you who said I'd like to get into racing, this is an ok site to find a track near you.

www.trackpedia.com
(I haven't looked in a while, but everytime I do it seems updated).

If you find that a REAL track (i.e. Raceway, Speedway, etc. Not a 10 year old paved drag strip..) is near you take a look HERE and contact (e-mail is usually best) you local NASA Regional Director. Jason Boles (AZ) is an awesome guy if you are cool, and is ALWAYS looking for more customers. If you are in SoCal, Ryan Flaherty is one of the coolest guys I've met w/ NASA (used to run NASA-AZ). Awesome dude to get drunk with. He let me run pace for the Buttonwillow Enduro last year (that was fun!)

Every Month NASA holds weekend (1day, 2day, 3day, sometimes 4) Race Events at their Region's tracks and you can experience everything from beginner lessons, to open track time with other amatuers, to the exciting NASA Time Trials, and the bloody Spec Miata/BMW CCA/Kit Cars/Etc Race Events (NASAProRacing.com).

It IS expensive but VERY worth the money. A NASA Membership is neccessary (cheap$) and each day at the event is something like $120 for the HPDEs (High Performance Driver's Education). You can drive ANYTHING in the HPDEs as long as it'll pass tech. I've seen everything from Ferrari's to Toyota Land Cruisers on the track (at the same time!). HPDE 1 you can usually graduate in one lesson (if you know what you are doing) and move to HPDE 2 where you actually get to press on the gas pedal and drive with other HPDE2-er's. Then ride with an instructor and show him you know the rules/flags/how to pass/how to signal/etc and move to HPDE 3 where you are basically given free reign with other HPDE 3-er's to go have fun. Show you have some real balls and move up to HPDE 4/TT (Time Trials) and hone your skills for bragging rights..

Sorry, I'm a NASA-whore (ever since I started working for them and they started giving me free track time.)

It really is a good deal. If you have experience WORKING a Race Event contact your Regional Director and ask to be a Corner Marshall, they may give you free track time in return! wink1.gif

depending on what type of funding i can have for the srt, i might start playing around at sandia. if i end up getting the coilovers i want, i will try it out just for fun.

but it will all depend on finances i guess. i've always wanted to take a car around a track and push it.

dear lord, if you go to Sandia let me know. I have been waiting to organize a group to go. They are in the middle of butt-fvck nowhere and if you schedule something with them outside of their event dates you and some friends can have the entire track to yourself from sunrise to sunset. Bikes, carts, cars, all together..

omfg!
