Xuan Minh, 3, looks out from his bed at the Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Min city on Friday March 25,2005, suffering from what is believed to be the effects of the jungle defoliant Agent Orange, used heavily in the region by the U.S. armed forces during the Vietnam War. Vietnam has ended. Its been 30 years of fairly calm activity in the Vietnam area. Soon in 3 days its been an even 30 years sine the OFFICIAL end of the war. The pic above isnt some photochop sadly; its the result of armed conflict, maybe its time to rethink on how the US handles war?

I say photochop.

I don't care who posted it, hasn't the past year shown that the news is VERY falliable?

As for the stuff up there. Hogwash. Nothing to rethink. We did what we had to do, our folks got hurt from Agent Orange just like theirs did, if not WORSE. War should always be the last option, but stopping the spread of communism was the most important thing the US could ever do. With the war ending like it did, it still helped slow the spread of that now defunct form of government.

Today however, we don't do things the same. Most (again, MOST) of the stuff we use is approved before we use it. Remember also that 56% of the Vietnamese population was born after the end of the war now. Almost NONE of them have any issues with the US anymore and all want to forget the atrocities committed by both sides.

If you talk to any Nam Vet, it was not the people on the ground who lost that war. It was the decisions made in Washington. Almost every military action taken on the ground in Viet Nam was a success, yet the polititions who ran the way with an eye towards Micromanagement would never let the troops roll on the north.

What is truely sad, the whole war could have been avoided. In the 50s a young politition from Viet Nam came to the US to see if we would put pressure on France to pull out. Viet Nam was still a colony of France at the time. The people there wanted to be free of the oppression and to make their own decisions. As France was a powerful ally of ours, we refused to help him. His name? Ho Chi Minh. With us shutting down door in his face, he went to the next powerful country for help. The Soviets. With some foresight, we could have stopped the spread of communism right there without ever pointing a gun.

^^

whoa i didnt know that, but it agree with both redz and mad here, from the info mad just gave we couldve avoided it, but either way we did slow down the spread of communism and we war should always be a last resort, but there are times to resort to it. i think the war was badly planned. however at the same time, i wonder if politians wouldnt do anything big to finish the war because of the riots and stuff going on at home. trying to manage a war on another coast and then have ppl always rioting makes winning harder cuz you got more to deal with. just a thought.
