More like. Hyundai bought Mitsubishi old factory engine making equipment.

So they were limited to strikingly similar mitsubishi designs. Course from terms of reliability. I think they did a better job on fixing mitsu flaws.

Mitsubishi engines are hella more reliable than any Hyundai. They have "reliability" issues because stupid newbs buy old DSMs and turn up the boost without changing anything else. And even with the boost @ 15PSI (or even higher with some stupid ppl) on stock exhausts, side mounted intercoolers, and constrictive housings, they last tens of thousands of miles in that state. The non-turbo engines, 4G63 and K20A, are known for lasting an extremely long time. Probably because there is no turbo for stupid people to monkey around with.

I haven't heard of many blown beta motors, especially NA. Anyone know the highest mileage beta around?

Its pretty much impossible to blow any motor naturally aspirated. I'm not arguing that the Beta is not a strong motor, its that its not an often-tuned motor, and is therefore in a N/A state, resulting in less blown ones.

Jaws i know went through two Betas (Beta I and a Beta II) with nitrous, Hob blew one, and another someone blew one around here... don't remember.

OK Kit here's the summary:
1. Porsche helped Hyundai with the suspension
2. Lotus helped with the body desighn
3. Betas are good motors and have been around for +7yrs or so.
4. Hyundai screwed up and created the GK with a Sonota 6cylinder

I still want to see cold hard facts on the Lotus helping Hyundai with the Body.. if they had, Hyundai would have been screaming it from the mountains as a marketing ploy.

*Edit*

From "Automotive Design and Production"

The Car Makers' Engineer. There are a few things that are useful to know about Lotus before getting into the Elise. First off, it is a company that is primarily an aid to other auto manufacturers. Each year, some 500,000 vehicles are produced with Lotus-designed engines (sometimes credited, sometimes not). In all, about one million vehicles per year are produced that are equipped with Lotus-designed systems; the company is especially noted for its suspension work.
