need your opinions on the military
my dad was in the air force for 8 years. from what he says, it wasn't too bad. he worked with computer and stuff in the mid-late 80's and beginning of the 90's (when they weren't everywhere). i think he made it to first lt. or something....but when clinton started cutting the military, he left. they told him leave now and take some cash or be forced out later. he ended up going back to college and now he's the business manager at a school district.
if that's what you were into, you could do technical stuff. but like everyone else said, you have to look to the future. i know my dad didn't want to be in the air force forever and he's happy now that he's out.
btw, i know he calls marines "jarheads." i know it's slang, but is it derogatory? just curious smile.gif

It depends on who's saying it and the context and what not.Usually if one of us 'squids' says it, it's bad. Everybody in the military makes fun of different branches and even different groups within a branch.Us bubble heads( submariners ),refer to any surface ship sailor as: 'target', 'surface puk', etc. It's fun!!
I will admit I wanted to be a bubblehead.. My Father was stationed aboard a sub tender in Rota Spain and when we were over here. He got me aboard a couple of subs he probably shouldn't have due to his connections.. always loved submarines.. oh well, crohnes disease took care of that option.. I am totally 4f
i would never get on a sub... i have seen Crimson Tide and The Hunt for Red October, and U-571 too many times... if you get into trouble down there you are f***ed... horribly horribly f***ed.... plus people can still find you with sonar
Hey Dog if your interested in joining go Navy. For the simple reason like myself I'm an Aviation Electronics Technician and I work on the radare systmes for the P-3C Orion, I also work on the infared system for it and it is sweet. I've been in 13 years and yes the ship is kind of boreing but once I went P-3 it was on. You get to go to Europe, Japan and different other sites like Carasao. You get your normal check and get paid perdiem tax free. Myself I work in a climate control building and don't even get dirty. Plus now you could go to college on your own time and they pay 100% of the tuition.

That's true things can go very wrong. That's why you and everyone else has to be the best.
Sonar from a surface ship or aircraft trying to find a sub is like trying to find a c*** hair in a pile of hay.Even a sub trying to find another sub is very difficult.
I wouldn't get on a sub just because of the small spaces. Tall people don't have a fun ride on those. Plus, don't they go down for like 6 months at a time? I'd go nuts without being outside for 6 months straight.
All in all, I'd join the Air Force. Flying jets would be sweet.
