I'm sure a lot of people can't handle it, but it's not like drinking and driving where you're impaired. It's not the act of being on the phone or texting, it's the idiot on the phone or texting. Sure, if you're a douche that can't multitask, you shouldn't do it. If you're an adult and smarter than your phone you should be able to make that decision wisely. I won't text at night or if I'm anywhere near other traffic, but if I'm cruising alone on the highway screw anyone else's beliefs on the issue. I know what's safe and unsafe for me better than anyone else.

Actually, it is like driving drunk. Read the track tests most of the car magazines have done having staffers drive cars around cones while on the phone. Despite what you believe, you're not special. You're human like the rest of us and your reaction times ARE slower when talking on the phone. As far as STFU until you have an accident, it's too late then. That's why we have laws and why I soon hope to see a complete ban on cell phone use while driving. We don't wait for drunk driver's to wreck before arresting them for DUI.

If I was driving around an obstacle course situation, I wouldn't be on the phone. That's a lot different than cruising down a nearly empty highway. The key is to know when to NOT do it, and to be responsible enough to follow that.

Still don't care what anyone else wants to impose on me. The fine here is $124, I still talk on the phone. I don't really text anymore because texting with a touch screen is pretty tough to do without getting distracted.
