Yeah I understand everyone has their own opinions of what rice is, but you cant argue the fact of the meaning... Honestly if you have such a problem with wings or anything on the exterior that doesnt add to performance, take off your antennea, take off your lights, go with basic least wind resistance stuff. Take off the Emblem of your car.. i mean see how ridiculous it sounds? thats how you sound by argueing over the wing... I like the wing. It serves a purpose, whether or not you agree with it fine but argueing over it just seems so silly. And btw, rice is something you eat owned.gif

me personally i really only care for inline style engines. it dosent matter what the cylinder count is. from my experience V style eninges really dont last in comparasin to inline engines. too much stress on the parts from the gravity. thats why you dont see V-style engines that last into the 200k mark because they just cant handle that sort of abuse.
even in the short run if u beat on a V-style its going to break and your gonna have to do seals and gaskets. thats why nascar engines get rebuild every week. BUT it has been my experience that with an inline engine you can beat on that f***er from 50-150k and it will still get up when u want it too.</div>
Grand Prixs last forever (though that might be a 40 year old design that has had most of the bugs engineered out of them now). The long living V6's that I can think of are the 3100, 3800, the 3.8 ford uses, not sure about chrys corp though. Those are just the V6's. The V8's all tend to last a long time. Look at the 350s, LSx engines, LTx engines, etc. All V configs. I, personally, beat the snot out of my cars. My current Grand Prix is supercharged and hasn't had a problem in 60k miles. My last grand prix was N/A, I took that to the drag strips, road courses, beat it silly, not one single issue that was related to the drivetrain. It's not the V or inline config, it's the engineering and maintenance that matters

LOL. Name me one domestic vehicle..hell..or import..that comes with 24" chrome wheels. The chrome grill is NOT a common thing stock on most cars either. Now if you mean aftermarket, I'll agree. If you mean from the factory, the imports capitalized on that first (celica "action" package, and not to mention Scion).

I don't have an antennea on my car other than the low profile XM and Onstar ones that aren't at a point of low wind resistance, lights...ok..take them off..car is not street legal. Emblem? Are you serious? It's embeded in the front facia...that's not resisting any wind LOL. Let's look at the argument you just made. Let's say I have a regular radio antenea. The resistance of that isn't even close to that of a wing. Now, if the wing were tuned, you'll get 0 argument from me! That'd be cool! However, just slapping one on has as much chance of hurting the car's performance as helping smile.gif Again, 600 hp is something you can't argue with. His car is fast, period, I have no doubt about that. However, I'm just saying he may be hurting his handling more than helping, or he may not be helping it as much as it COULD be.

Slaping a wing on and saying "It helps" is rice when you have no proof. I'm just encouraging the dude to get it tested and tuned if necessary. If it's making his handling worse, I'd hate to see something happen.

Ahh, but then the inverse is also true.
Calling a wing rice and saying it doesn't help his performance without proof proving that either.
So, are STOCK wings rice?
How about if you swap one stock wing for another one because you like the way it looks, but it's still stock on that car?
I ask this because I took the stock wing off of my car, I hated it, and replaced it with the Type R Wild wing (stock in Korea and Canada).
Replacement parts. If you get an upgraded part for your car, and it has some styling aspect to it, does that make it rice?
Example given here. If you buy a set of Flex A Lite fans, but go for the yellow ones rather than the black ones, is that rice?
We could try to define these things for years and argue the whole time, but when it comes down to it, the definition of rice varies per person. Arguing isn't going to change that.
I'd also have to say that I see more Domestic Rice every day than Asian.
I just think your site is futile though. In the end, it doesn't matter at all what the members on your site or any other site think, it's that the owner of the car is happy. Motorsport has changed a lot in the past 20 years. Motorsport is a wide ranging passion for folks.
1. Drag Racing
2. Auto X
3. Rally
4. Car Shows
5. Nascar
Some folks like one part, some like the others, but when it comes down to it, being pleased with what you've done to your car is the most important part. So go paint your valve covers, swap some incandescent bulbs with some LED clusters, replace perfectly good vaccum tubing with a colored silicone version, and enjoy what you enjoy.
Personally, I'm into performance and style. I've done a lot to my car, and always try to find the best item, in a color I want, for the cheapest price possible. Stock looking engine bays are annoying, and ugly.

Motorsports does not include car shows. There's no motoring, there's no sport. That's just a show. Now the other four, most definitely are sports. As for rice, rice is rice, domestic or import. I see more import than domestic. Depends on the area I guess. As for swapping a Type R wing for a regular wing...are you in canada? wink1.gif If not, then rice. There are no Type R Integras that came into the US without someone importing it on their own. An imported Type R does not = rice, it's a Type R. It's like this. I own a GP. Several Grand Prix GT owners (back when the GT was a N/A 3800 engine) would swap in the GTP engine and tranny, then put GTP badges on their car. Is it a GTP? No. Same here. Can't call stock rice, regardless of if it's regular factory spoiler or the factory upgrade spoiler. Though, there are some things..(cobalt SS for instance) that should be rice from the factory, but again, it's factory and that's always been exempted.
As you said, if they are happy, they'll do it I guess. The problem I have is the ones that slap rice on their car, think they are now 600 HP civics/integras/cobalts/neons/cavaliers/sunfires/whatever, and race around like idiots, eventually careening into some poor mom and her kids.

^^^ Car show... I dunno.. I feel the work i put into my car before a show is just like training up for an event. It takes alot, and then when you get to the show you get to see if what you did paid out or if someone else did more then you. There's alot of emotion at car shows. It's kind of like a duel. REDZMAN and I were side by side wondering if either of us would win the whole time at NOPI. We both are in street class(mostly stock) as opposed to custom class (body kits / wild wings).
The whole point is, a car show is as much of a competative activity as a drag race. You build up before the event and are judged by a certain set of standards, then awards are handed out. There's alot to be said for taking the time to clean out an engine bay with steel wool, a toothbrush, brasso and silicone lube.

dont take this the wrong way, but it seems by reading the way people at AR talk, its like they act like theyre the judges of what's rice and whats not.
Like it has been said before, whats rice is an opinion, so to pretend your the definitive rice definer is absurd.
One of your own (from AR) said "money spent for looks as apposed to performance is rice"
"is rice" not "in my opinion its rice", just flat out is rice.
I was just out paying my car insurance, and i saw saw a mustang with those white letters above his windshield that spelled out "MUSTANG", i didnt ask him if he thought it was rice, but i guarantee you he'd say thats not rice.
It was money spent, for looks, that didnt attribute to performance at all, didnt hurt, but didnt help so under that "definition", its rice
But then again, an aftermarket radio may increase sound performance, but doesnt increase engine performance, but i dont think having a nice headunit to play your CD's and give off better sound is rice.
Same with a GPS and heated seats, doesnt increase engine performance, but its something thats enjoyed by the driver, and thats all that matters.
Now lets take a look at body kits. Granted its a little more expensive than a window decal but they are mostly for looks as well. The owner enjoys how they look.
And since real bodykits are lower than the stock counterparts, and in every other kit but the Veilside they are smoother too; so they will flow better aerodynamically and reduce drag, and by keeping negative pressure under the car, itll add downforce.
Will it help alot? nah, but will it hurt performance? definatly not, so [/u]I dont define it as rice.
And i REALLY dont think its rice if it allows airflow to an intercooler.
A parkbench wing on the other hand? yah, itll prolly add resistance, so id call it rice, but it alone doesnt make a car a ricer.
we tell madjohn all the time that his wing is rice, but were not saying his car is rice, because if madjohn wants to have a wing, we let the man have a wing
He's earned it wink1.gif
Thats our attitude here, if youve got some cosmetic modifications done, and you have the power to back it up, we dont call them ricers.
But even when they are ricers, alot of the time we just "live and let live" because were generally a nice bunch of people here. We just like tuning our cars (for performance and looks) and having a good time while were doing it.
Thats how it is where i live too, my best friend has a mustang, and theres no import vs domestic tension, we both respect each others cars. Cus we both have the same passion fing02.gif
