I don't get a CEL.
When I first took the cannister out, I just left the hoses open and the car ran fine with no CEL.
I thought of moveing the thing, but then thought WHY BOTHER :?:

i might just do that col, if there is a problem with the mounting of the box and i get lazy. lol.

if i choose to connect the tubes together, and a CEL pops up, would i need to reset the ECU if i put it back together? or would it simply come off?

one more question for ya col, : <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The line comes up from the fire-wall to the rear side of the CAI tube.</div>

what is that cable running to the back of your CAI. is it from the cannister? i'm understanding that the cannister has tubes coming from the fuel tank. are you running that tube to your CAI?

Default Car of the month rules

Yes, the canister has 2 tubes. 1 is the vent line from the tank (that's the tube that I ran to the cai). The other 1 is the bleed line back to the IM and has a valve in it. What I did was, leave the valve in place but block the line going into the valve. No CEL, no ECU reset. 8)
When I 1st tried connecting the tube together, I didn't get a CEL, but the car didn't run right b/c the tank wasn't venting properly as the valve only open periodicaly for very short periods.

Default Re: to everyone with a veilside kit & suspension...

got the CAI on myself! everything fits. the splash guard whent nicely over. i took out the vapor racovery system and left all the wires hanging. there were three connected to the VRS. can i drive on that?

i also purchased some extension tubing to move the VRS to the back behind the bumper, however, there was an electronic wire attatched to the VRS. what to do with that wire?

ALSO, the Air Temp sensor is out. it's nearly impossible to put back into the CAI. how can i do this? vasolene 8O ? lol

You should be able to drive OK with the lines not connected, but I don't know what the wire is as mine didn't have any electronics to the cannister. The only elec bit on mine is the valve on the tube going to the IM.
The Air Temp Sensor should go back in (it has be there) so just lube the rubber with some silicone spray or something (nothing to heavy) and push it in wink.gif

Default Re: gas mileage?

thanks col! man, you really cleared things up for me. and thanks to all who responded and helped me out with this. my friends are all wondering how i did this by myself without having read any manuals or anything! lol... they don't know about this website.

i took the car for a spin with the CAI on, however, i know it's not living up to its fullest potential because i instrted the air temp sensor about half way and on top of everything, my car is having some engine troubles.

but there is a noticable difference in acceleration. it feels like it gave me about 10 hp off the bat! wow... i really reccomend this mod to anybody. it's cheap. it's easy. it gives you noticable hp throughout all rpm range from the moment you put it on. i didn't know the outcome would be so good. the 3" piping really does sound neat! right now, it sounds somewhat like a growling. it's not loud yet just because i have to finish connecting the cables and my car has to be repaired... but when you rev that engine a few times back and fourth it just sounds sexy. give me some headers, BBTB, and airram, and i'm ready for the track!

as for the charcoal box cannister (yes, i know, it has more than one name), it's very simple to undo the tubes, purchase some connector barbs and tubes from home depot and reinstall it on the ass end of the car. it's only because MD inspection is pretty tough.

thanks again everyone! you have to hear this for yourselves if you don't have a CAI already... 8)

*EDIT* do you guys know how loud the 3" CAI's are supposed to get? You wouldn't be able to tell i have one unless you revved the engine up passed the 4k rpm, but since it's an automatic, it never gets above 4k unless you're really pushing it. so it's not really loud at all. do i need a catback for the noise to be heard?

*UPDATE*
Moving my canister:

I moved the canister to where the air box used to be. i mounted it with the mounting brackets and it has no movement. i know it doesn't look hot, but it's the only place i could think of besides going through all of the trouble of extending the wires and tubes down to the bottom of the car. here's what i did.

I took out that valve because i definitely would not be able to extend or take out the electrical wires from underneath. SO, instead, what I did, was mount the valve alone back to the original place of the cannister, but instead, extend the tubing from it. no wiring. no stress. no trouble. all i have to do is conect the tubes together with 3/16 hoses from home depot. there should be about a two foot extension difference, and a 3 foot extension difference between the valve and the canister.

Now what do you guys think? feedback anybody? is this a good solution? will it pass emissions?
