Some Little Upgrade...
I agree with both Dmitry and Ultra. A little useless perhaps, but interesting. I do think that having the LEDs change in colour as you go up the RPMs is a GREAT idea.. it sort of works as a shift light.
As for the gear indicator.. they generally only use those in a sequential tranny as you cannot tell my feel what gear you are in or going into. If I was going to mount it though, I think maybe removing one of your middle air vents in the dash (over the heater controls) and fitting a piece of plastic into it and putting it there might work well.

I'd take one of the gear indicators too.
Think about it man, those shift lights aren't exactly small, and definately aren't OEM in look at all. All he did is make a RPM range shift light, and there are several of those on the market. I'd actually prefer one of those to a regular shiftlight.
Also, there are PLENTY of shiftlights out there that have RPM Dials and don't need "Pills". I've got one.
Basicly though, why tell him to get a shift light? He just made a sequential RPM Range Shift Light.

They all look nice but the gear and rpm thing are a little worthless IMO. Kinda like getting a second tach. If you want something to tell you when to shift get a shift light and a pill module.

ok: a little update on this thread.
about the RPM led lights:
this RPM range (for the 21 leds - i used 16 blues + 4 reds with the 1st led only for the "on" to match more the rest of the blu led lighting inside the car) can be set as you want.. for me, since the Hyundai has the the ECU RPM cutted at 6100RPM i set the 21 is lighted at 6000 - and not about at. i mean exactly at 6k.
Then, since i calculated the frequency of the signal coming from the coils to the back of the istrum. cluster (please, because sometimes there are some technical words, i try to translate them as close as i can.. but if i make some translation error, feel free to correct me asap!) i can grant that this 21 leds are 3 time more reactive and precise than the oem RPM gauge in the cluster, beacuse it shows exaclty how fast the engine is rolling.. without the gauge actuation delay i mean you should see.. .. when i tested it on the fly, i was shocked because the RPM are going up and down faster than the orm guage show.. and it is nice to see (imho)
BUT - before drilling everywhere (this scares me a lot!!) i was looking for the definitive position.. but i think the only right one can be on the border of the instrum. cluster... (with a on/off switch optionally) it's only a matter of time for make a good/clean job.. maybe i will finish it near to this summer.. stay tuned..
Then: for the gear display.. im' not sure for the dimension of that display.. maybe i'll change it with a smaller one.. the position is unknow... actually, i was thinking to put it somewhere under the radio.. but need to study more on that... i was guessing too to made a custom 52mm gauge with a single pod all over the central air intakes..
and at last: i followed the DIY for the air fuel meter, that i discovered a lot of people did that before me and it seems to work.. so, i decided to use free 5mm leds and put them manually on the right border of the console, close to the radio coming down with 10 leds close to the cigarette lighter... because i have enough of the same old 52mm air fuel gauge or the typical led bar... i'm trying to make some kind of new alternative look...

i'm sorry but i don't a have any circuit because the day i was looking for the simplest RPM gauge with leds (for my motorbike) i discovered a friend of mine (here in italy, an electronic guru with the same tuning passion for bikes/cars) with already the project finished, tested and every detail already known for adapting the same circuit for 1/2/4 or more cylinder (for scooter too!)
so i wrote to him to ask the circuit only, and then, beacuse he was really friendly he made and sold me one so i only plugged my leds.. that's all...
he saved me a lot of time, since i realized that the projecting phase is really long.
but i think he is online sometimes..
check his homepage.. he has a lot of nice circuits more on his homepage
http://digilander.libero.it/iz8dem/circuit...i/contagiri.htm
for now, read it as it is.. if you need some translation just ask. or if you want, try to leave a message directly to him .

Whoa... I want those gear switch. Would be perfect for an dual stage electronic boost controller. That, plus a nitro switch on the TB. Then, when you're @ full throttle and NOT in 1st gear, full boost baby! Otherwise, low boost.
I was thinking about this yesterday while driving. I do not see the LEDs fitting on the very edge of the dash like in your picture, the steering wheel would obscure them. Right above the Speedo might be a real good place. Front and centre and shaded from the sun so the LEDs do not get washed out during the day.
The gear indicator, I still like the idea of replacing the middle airvent in the dash closest to you with it. You could also mold a "cup" into the dash right below the stock Tach and mount it there. I think having it down under the radio would really make it useless as by the time you looked at it, you would already have seen where the shifter was.

Would there be a way to make it almost like a HUD? I think if you had it on top of the steering column mounted at an angle it would reflect off the clusters clear plastic.
